Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

• Clear the Cache and

• Remove Cookies
  Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

• Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
• Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I've never noticed this happening, but I tend to use Google services logged out, so that could explain it.

What kinds of sites are affected by this: not just Google sites but third party sites? Sites you log into using Google credentials?

Were you able to determine if those particular websites use Google+? Look at the source code for those pages, first when you are logged in to Google+ and then again after you log out of Google+. Once the state of a Google+ cookie changes, I suspect that every webpage that uses a Google+ cookie "knows" you are logged out of Google+ - and then reloads their webpage to reflect that new state.

Gmail has been part of Google+ for a quite awhile now - many websites that participate in Google+ or make use of the various Google API's will "know" when you log out of Gmail / Google+ - and my suspicion is that pages reload as a result of logging out of Google+.

I run Firefox with multiple Profiles and most of my Profiles use the Fanboy's Social Blocking List for Adblock Plus to "severe the ties" between websites that make use of "social networking". I can't say that I ever seen that happen often enough to be of great concern to me - as far as page reloading as a result of signing out of Gmail. But I do tend to use just one Profile when I check all my web mail accounts, being sure to sign out of each account when I am done, and I rarely have any other tabs open when I check my email. Plus when I am done with that type of web activity I close that Profile and continue with another Profile that I might have open. https://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/

But IMO that isn't a bug per se, my "take" is that it is a feature of social networking where logins are shared with "partner websites" for the benefit of their users. Makes it real convenient to use their Google+ login to gain access to a website that without using Google+ would require a separate "account" for each website. Mozilla Persona offers real privacy when it comes to using one account to log in to web sites that participate in the Persona program - but it looks to me that Persona is dead in the water, but its' epitaph just has been written yet. https://login.persona.org/about

Yes, it could be considered a "threat to privacy" but users voluntarily signup for "social" features and it is up to each user to learn about the privacy implications of using such services. And then attempt to learn how to block those features or to just not use it.

I think Edmeister is right about google+. I checked a few pages that are reloaded and they indeed have google+. I do not use any social media except for gmail, neither tend to browse while logged in, nevertheless it is occasionally bothersome to close all the tabs just to check my mail. It would be nice to not have to take extreme precautions to avoid social media. Maybe a social media optout could be introduced to Firefox. I also find it a bit disingenuous to say that users voluntarily sign up for social features. I started to use gmail before google+ was introduced and google also made sure not to be easy to opt out from their new social features.

If you want something built in to Firefox - file a Bug report! That will get the developers to be aware of your issues and get them thinking about whether its some thing that needs to be fixed or a "feature". No guarantee that will do anything to solve your issues, but at least you'll find out if the Mozilla developers are willing to do anything.

As far as Fanboy's Social Blocking List for Adblock Plus, try it and see if it solves your issues. It seems to help in the Profiles where I have it installed, but NoScript seems to work a lot better - but NoScript requires a lot of attention; for every new website you visit the user needs to set what to unblock - and very few websites these days work at all until the user starts unblocking. It's like using a sledge hammer to drive a thumbtack; a little too hard of a swing and there's a hole in the wall - and smashed "thumb".
