Having issues with saving and history

"Save Link as" isn't working at all. When I try it, either nothing happens at all, or when something does happen, I can't save a file. When something does happen and the folder location where I'm trying to save it opens, it just says "dwn" in the filename box. And I can't save anything I try to save.

And when I "left click" when trying to save something, it just says "connecting..." and after a couple minutes, it will let me save the file I'm attempting to save. But if what I'm trying to save a file and the link has a limit, it always expires before I get to save it.

I've tried Safe Mode, restarting Firefox to factory state, I've uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it, cleared history, cache, and cookies, but nothing has worked.

And also when I cleared the history, my address bar wasn't cleared at all.

Please help me with this, it's getting really frustrating.

First question. Are you trying to save a file, or a link?

more options

Video Files.

I used to be able to click "Save Link As" on the link to the video, and I would choose which folder I would like it to be saved to. And I would just save it, and it would download.

But when I left click, some sites it comes up after a couple seconds, and some it just says "connecting" and takes a couple minutes. But when they do come up, they all download no problem. Downloading isn't an issue, it's just saving.

Well I've tried restoring Firefox to it's factory state, and I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

"Save Link As" seems to be actually coming up more than it was before I asked the question here.

But sometimes when I try "Save Link As" in order to save a Video File, it says the following"

"videoplayback" in the "Filename" Box "Firefox HTML Document" in the "Save As Type" Box

I used to never have to "left click" when downloading. And that still sometimes takes a while.

And I've always had it set to "Always ask me where to save files". So when it asks me where to save it, that's how I know a download is ready.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for Downloaders.

You can also look for external downloaders that work with Firefox.

Well downloading a video from a place like Youtube is easy for me do. I actually have Addons for that.

But if someone uploads something to Filesharing site and sends it to me, which is something I need because of my Job, which downloader would help me with that?

Because saving those is what's giving me the biggest problems.

Can you post an example to something not private?

Do you have any kind of blocking programs?

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page, do a right click in the box and select Paste. This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.

I'm confused. I copied the most recent 10 like you said.

And when I go to that "about:crashes", above the dates it says "Date Submitted"

And I don' t even see a "Submit" button

UPDATE: I may have figured it out. And I also have a slight issue

It may have been the VLC Plugin that was causing the issues.

For Firefox, when I went to check if my Plugins are up to date, it said that the VLC Plugin needed to be updated.

I had "2.1.3.0" and I needed to update it to "2.1.5"

I downloaded the file for "2.1.5" and Updated it, but it still says "2.1.3.0" when I check my Firefox addons. And it still says it needs to be updated.

But I went to Firefox Options, then went to "Applications". And when I checked the "Action" of certain content types, I saw that "Use VLC Media Player 2.1.5" was an option.

Originally it was "Use VLC Web Plugin (For Firefox)". Which I assume was "2.1.3.0"

When I made "Use VLC Media Player 2.1.5" the setting for opening some files, "Save Link as" started working. And I was able to save things no problem. I'll know for sure sometime tomorrow if that was the issue when I use a filesharing site for work.

But why does it still say that I need to update VLC?

ANOTHER UPDATE:

Now it's acting up again. But I think VLC is the issue.

Like I said, it says I need to update to 2.1.5, but I downloaded the update and the Plugin for Firefox still says "2.1.3.0" How can I make Firefox recognize 2.1.5?

Also when I try installing 2.1.5 again, it says it's already installed.

And I've tried uninstalling VLC Media Player as a whole, and it does the same thing when I reinstall it. I download 2.1.5, but Firefox says I still have 2.1.3.0 and need an update

Go to the VideoLAN - VLC: Official site; http://www.videolan.org/ Get the full installer and save it. After close all other programs. Open your computers programs folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Remove VLC. Then restart the computer. After, install the program.

This is a know issue with the update checker. If the programs web site says you are up to date, then you are fine.

It didn't work.

When I go to "about:Addons", it still says "VLC Plugin 2.1.3.0"

And it still says that I need to Update and that 2.1.3.0 is Vulnerable

And when actually open VLC Media Player, if I go to "Help", then "About", it says "2.1.5"

So now what?
