Why are Twitter and other sites suddenly turning pure white on the screen where I can't see anything?
Randomly multiple websites will suddenly turn pure white and I can't use them anymore. I've restarted without add-ons. I've cleared caches. I've pretty much done everything suggested. I'm not using any ad blockers. What is going on? Don't make me have to use Google Chrome. I hate that damn browser, but I can't keep constantly restarting Firefox.

Your support forums suck balls, Mozilla. How about having actual trained personnel on hand instead of this crap?
I'm on Mavericks too, but I haven't seen any such problems. Try resetting Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-preferences-fix-problems
When this happens, if you select all on the page (Command+a or right-click > Select All), can you see text there?
If so, make sure you have sufficient contrast between your default foreground and background colors. Sometimes sites will not specify both of those, or their style sheet might not load, and then your default kicks in.
"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Content
Click the Colors button and try black Text on a white Background.
What are the default color settings in Firefox > Preferences > Content ?
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
- Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
This has nothing to do with colors or contrasts or anything of that sort. It's all been happening since I "upgraded" to Firefox 32. Can I go back to 31?
Of course, you can use any version of Firefox you want. Naturally, there are security vulnerabilities in older versions, so it is not recommended. Also, there's no assurance that this is due to a program change, so you may have the same issue. More info: Install an older version of Firefox.

If the page is truly blank, a script that dynamically refreshes the content of the page may be failing. If you reload (Command+r) does the page populate as expected, or stay blank, or roll back to an earlier state?
All the text disappears into pure white on the screen for Twitter, which is the worst affected website. Hitting select all does not bring it back. Refreshing the page does not bring it back. All I can do is shut down Firefox, bring it back, and then it usually goes back to normal for a while. There is no pattern or consistency to these "whiteouts," I've had them pop up again within minutes, sometimes not for hours. I've tried restarting with add-ons disabled. I've tried basically rebooting Firefox completely. They just keep coming back.
It's driving me a tad nuts.
Twitter does a lot of dynamic loading (getting more tweets as you scroll down). I wonder whether that process is not completing, although, I don't see why it would remove existing tweets. Are you logging in, or do you always get that annoying overlay to log in?
You mentioned using Restart with Add-ons disabled, which provides access to Firefox's Safe Mode. It still happened in Safe Mode? Or is it too intermittent to confirm that?
Next time you see this, if you use Select all then right-click > View Selection Source, do you get a huge amount of HTML selected or is the source of the page blank?
Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).
Resetting Firefox does keep some info, like bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, open windows, tabs and tab groups, cookies, web form auto-fill information, and your personal dictionary, but I doubt the cause of your problem is among those.
Maybe the cause is in the app itself. Did this start happening after an update? Try remove firefox.app and re-installing the latest version from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/
For jscherr2000: It still happens in safe mode. And I don't have the right click option via my laptop, so can't do what you suggested.
For cor-el: That didn't do a darned thing.
For Chris Ilias: It happens on so many pages, I can't believe it's just those apps. Tried removing and replacing. Still had no effect.
Hi topeswriter, you could try calling up the context menu using one of these if you can't right-click:
- two-finger tap
If resetting Firefox and replacing Firefox.app still doesn't fix it, maybe it's an issue with graphics card compatibility. Try disabling hardware acceleration. We'll see if that works. But lately Firefox isn't even letting me play any sort of videos without slowing to a helpless crawl and/or crashing. It's becoming almost an unusable browser.
That sounds more like the Flash plugin is causing the problem. That would explain why the problem still existed in safe mode - safe mode doesn't disable plugins. It would explain why resetting Firefox didn't work - plugins are installation-wide. And it would explain why re-installing Firefox also didn't work - Flash is not part of the Firefox installation.
Looking at your list of installed plugins, there are a few items that you have installed, that I don't. Right now, my suggestion is this:
- Make sure your plugins are up to date, by going to the Mozilla plugin check page.
- Disable (or uninstall) any plugins you don't use.
- Uninstall Flash, reboot, then re-install it. For more info, check out the article Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
I uninstalled Flash and then reinstalled it. I also found a plug-in for Silverlight (a lot of college athletic department websites, which I access for work purposes, were using that) that was having issues. Got rid of that, too.
