Yahoo does not display properly in firefox 31.0 but will show correctly in IE. How do I get this fixed?

more options

I have cleared cookies and cache, updated Firefox to 31.0 but it still keeps happening. I have even accessed my Yahoo email through the ATT site because I have an sbcglobal.net address. Nothing works. I can see my Yahoo email just fine through Internet Explorer but would prefer to do all of my internet related work via Firefox. I have no idea what to do.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?. Then restart.

Dear Fred,

Not trying to be dense - started Firefox in safe mode. I went to the grid for firefox on the far right of the screen. There is no Icon that says Tools under Firefox - just options. When I click on Firefox options, there is nothing that says edit. Then I saw you want me to go to Windows Tools? I do not have a Mac or Linux so I am a bit confused.

Please read my instructions again. Nothing in your answer is in the instruction I posted.

Ok I finally figured out where you were directing me. I turned off the hardware accelleration and went to Yahoo.com. Logged in and the issues are still happening. I went to another website and that particular one is fine. How do I get Yahoo to work correctly with Firefox?

I have a similar problem with an automobile website. When I go to the Chevrolet "Build and Price" or "Build your own" site, Firefox 31 won't let me pick any of the trim options other than the default one shown. However, the site works perfectly in Internet Explorer.

Firefox works ok with other automobile websites - just not this Chevy site. I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Dell XPS 8700.

However, a friend with another brand pc, also running Firefox 31 and 8.1, has no trouble at that site - works ok for him. We are running different brand antivirals - he has Norton I have McAfee.

Any idea what is going on?

Here is the problematic website link: http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-stingray/build-your-own.html?x-zipcode=93301

I checked the above Chevrolet page. No problems.

Thanks for your replies Fred. 1. As I noted, a friend of mine was also able to get the site to work, but, I can't. So I'm trying to figure out what on my end is causing the problem. 2. I've cleared the cache and history several times (in fact, my Firefox is set up to delete it all when I close the browser), so, that isn't the problem.

Wondering if it's some weird config problem that Dell did. I dunno. Have absolutely no clue what is going on.

maybe it's just someone telling me to save my money and get a cheaper, more practical car!

I am using a Dell. Did you check that article I posted?

more options

yes i did Fred - but I already had Firefox set up to delete all of my history. So when I go there now, there is no website to delete.

You have a Dell - are you using McAfee? That's what they gave me.

Try disabling McAfee and see what happens.

I use Norton 360.

Disabling McAfee didn't do anything. Still doesn't work. Thx Fred.

Copy: "Poke around safe web sites. " Sorry, but that makes no sense at all. I got to this thing by trying to find which version of I E is on this computer. There seems to be no way for a Comp Dunce to actually DO that. What in the world does "Play around safe web sites" mean? How is a person supposed to know what sites are safe or unsafe?? These things do not have to be made this difficult. I give up. Thanks so very much.

Hi Omnigusted, is your main question about your AT&T Yahoo mail, or about what version of Internet Explorer you have??

On the second point, IE has an "About" dialog showing the version. Try this: If the menu bar is not visible, tap the Alt key on the keyboard and then use the Help menu to find the About dialog. Does that work and have the information you're looking for?

But if you actually need help with your Yahoo mail, it would be great if you could describe your system in more detail and what exactly is going wrong.

This may sound a bit odd but how do I go about taking a screenshot of the 2 websites on my laptop?

avid: one way: hit Shift-PrtScn at the same time. Then paste it into a photo program like Paint and save it as a jpeg. (It acts like a cut and paste.)

Another way is if you have the Snipping tool that comes with Windows 8.1. Just click on that, then drag a box around what you want to capture and save it.

The first picture is how Firefox shows Yahoo mail. The second is how Internet Explorer shows my mail. My mail is supposed to look like how IE displays it. After Firefox did an update this summer, my Yahoo changed how it looks and functions on Firefox. I have had to resort to using IE for my email. Please remove photos when this is resolved or sent to a technician. I am really not comfortable with this out on Internet.
