Is there a way to tag files as you download them?

I would like to tag files -such as images and music- immediately while downloading them for easy retrieval later. Windows has a native tag searching feature, and several programs are able to edit the metadata they use for that when saving; so I would imagine that Firefox at least has an add-on that can do that, but I am having difficulty finding one that fits the bill.

Did you search the Add-ons website?

Indeed I have. I did not locate anything that sounded like it would do anything of the like, but that could be anything from my not trying the right search strings, the add-on not being hosted in the right place or tagged well, it being in a different language, the feature being one of many and thus not advertised front-and-center, or simply that it does not exist yet. Thus my appeal to you fine ladies/gents/etc.

I have looked at those and am using one, but they do not do what I am looking for.

Those add-ons save files in specific folders. I would like to be able to add metadata (not in the name) tags to files when I save them. These are two very different things.

About the only way is the hard way. Using a file explorer, open the Properties on the file, and select Details.

Very Slow = = = Very Time Consuming.

That it is. Which is why I was wondering if there was an addon that can let you do it as you save the file, since that's when you best know why you're saving it. Is it an impossible task, and only windows itself (and windows proprietary programs like word and stuff) can edit the data, or has it just not been done yet?

There are two general ways to do this.

1) In the case of audio / video, some players can access the information and even let you edit it.

2) In Windows, using a file explorer program, find the file, right click and select Properties, then Details.

I was just having a thought, Get a independent program that can edit the file details on its own. Who knows, there may be something out there that can do this.

Last thought. When I am downloading clips, sometimes the download fails or cuts off, so what I do is I copy the link of the file to the same directory the download is going to. You can do something like that. Edit the link to <file name><download reason>

Thank you, but as I have said I am specifically looking for something to edit as I save the file, not after it is saved. I save a lot of things (art hoarder) and would like to tag them on the spot to find later, rather than having to switch to a different window/program, find the file, and then have to remember what I was going to tag it as in the first place. It would be much easier if I could tag it as I save it from within Firefox itself.

What did you think of my last thought in the prior message? At least you would be able to make a comment.

I was under the impression that my answer covered that - that that is not what I am looking for.
