I made a mistake. I had 128 and went up to 140. It pretty much looks the same, but a big difference is an extension I always use says it will not work with 140. I don't care how good 140 might be; if I can't use my app, QUICKTEXT, then I don't need this. How do I go back to 128 or to a version that works with my extension?

I was following instructions for the problem of some task bar icons showing as grey boxes. Still have that problem plus added the problem that thunderbird launches with the setup accounts dialogue page. The 'help>troubleshooting information>profile file location' reveals the correct profiles that have been updated to the hour before I caused the problem. I have saved the '...roaming/thunderbird folder to an external SSD, and made a new new thunderbird installation following the instructions for moving files to a new computer. Problem persists. Thunderbird will not 'see' the profiles therefore I cannot see my emails.

Trying to set up existing email address. When I type in info, it says "Configuration found ..." When I hit done, I get "unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password."

I have a Mac and have been using Apple Mail. I'm not sure what to do next. I was able to open my Apple account, but that password does not appear to work.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it?

I require a copy of Firefox focus for my 87 year old mothers recent purchase of a bergstom android smart phone. My Mum knows absolutely Zero about the internet!! While I am happy for her to be able to browse the web, I am worried about here online safety and an email address increases her chances of signing into a site and imputing sensitive data. Hopefully, over time, if she learns the basic and the risks involved she can further explore the wonders of the internet? When I signed into my computer this morning, a pop-up asked me if I wanted Firefox to update. I let it do that, and then a pop-up came up letting choose among some photos and art for a desktop background. It even let me upload a photo of mine. I chose one of yours, now I can't change to any other photo I have on my computer. Please help.

Firefox updated from ESR to retail even though group policy settings disable update

I look after about 20 PCs. All Windows 10. All were running Firefox ESR ranging from 115 - 128. As I get time I update each to the latest 128.x. Using group policies I've disabled all update settings.

However, on two of the PCs, they have updated to v139.0.1. Both of the users swear they did not manually do any update. I can't figure out how they got downgraded to the retail channel.

So my question is, since 128 < 139 how can I get them back on to the ESR channel, without loosing history, bookmarks, passwords and saved logins? I gather FF's installer will detect 128 as an older version and throw an error?

ESR -> Retail to me is a downgrade. So is it possible then to upgrade back to 128.11.x?

Each PC is refreshed annually and the only backup of the profile folder I have is from the last refresh, which in most cases in 8-9 months old.

Is there any way to find out why the downgrade happened when group policy forbids it, and the user did not manually download and install the latest version?

When these downgrades happen they break things. For example, when one PC was downgraded to retail his outlook.com email no longer works. If he uses his laptop which is on 128.11.0 it works fine.

I am currently running Thunderbird version 128.11.0esr on Windows 11 on a Dell desktop computer.

I have been running Thunderbird for years. But back in February 2025 my previous Dell desktop died, so had to purchase a new Dell desktop running Windows 11. Then I downloaded Thunderbird and installed it on the new desktop then copied over the profiles that fortunately had been backed up just a week prior. It has been working fine. (When I installed the Thunderbird on the new computer I did not realize there was a difference between ESR (Extended Support Release) channel and Release channel; I just downloaded and installed what I came upon.)

However, around 5/28/25 got a pop-up message that stated something to the effect it is recommended I upgrade to Thunderbird Release.

Should I download and install a new Thunderbird from the Release channel? Will the existing profiles work with the Release channel Thunderbird? Thank you for your help.

Then I got a page saying Thank you, Finish installing and enjoy Thunderbird. But there is no way to finish installing and I never got a download file. I've tried multiple times, nothing happens. I just purchased a new laptop and am trying to get Thunderbird up and running. I have an outlook email account and use it's calendar. On my previous laptop (manjaro linux) I ran Thunderbird version 138.0 which allowed me to install TBSync and customize via the chrome file. It worked great at bringing the calendar over to Thunderbird. Now, on my new laptop (also Manjaro Linux) the package manager is only presenting version 139+ to install but TBSync does not work on this version of Thunderbird and I can't figure out how to install Thunderbird version 138 on the new laptop.

So, I need help either syncing my calendar in thunderbird version 139 to my outlook account or on how to install thunderbird version 138 so I can add TBSync. I've downloaded the file for version 138 but don't know how to install it. This shouldn't be so difficult.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am trying to upgrade from 128 esr version to the new 139 version. I tried several ways to transfer data from the old version to the new version - I tried to export and import a the Thunderbird zip file. I also tried to open profile manager and creating a new profile that refers to a copy from my old version. Nothing has worked. In the old Thunderbird 128 version, if I select Help and Troubleshooting Information and then Open Folder next to the Profile Folder I get an error in Thunderbird that it can’t find my profile. I get the same error message when I go to Tools, export and select "open profile folder." This in spite of the fact that the old version continues to correctly display my contacts, tasks and events

After several hours of this, I finally decided to download version 139 using the standard Mozilla set up even though my Thunderbird 128 version is located someplace else. So, at this time I have two working versions of thunderbird on my computer – the old 128 version with all my data and the new 139 version with no data.

I think I need help figuring out which Profile has my contact, calendar and task data. Then I need help getting it to the new version.

I got this while updating. Computer was off for 11 days (i hospital). Now I can't load my email. There are several PDF's of medical test requests and reports urgently needed to print. I can see my mail waiting on the server using my phone, but my desktop (Thunderbird) is the only one that will allow me to print.

We are trying to automate updating Firefox ESR from 32bit to 64bit. There seems to be an issue with getting user's profiles to properly migrate for ESR. If we do a plain 32bit uninstall and 64bit installation, a new "default-esr-1" profile gets created (which is expected behavior from these Mozilla docs for new installs). But, when we set the MOZ_LEGACY_PROFILES=1 policy, this reverts to using the "default" profile instead of "default-esr" profile that was previously in use.

Are there any known ways around this which does not require user intervention to manually change back to the "default-esr" profile?
