When writing an email message, periodically the cursor jumps to the subject line.

A prior thread recommended unchecking the hardware acceleration option at Settings / General / Indexing -- though that has not worked for me.

Does anyone have a solution?

It's still in the 'All Folders' list, but not in the Unified folders list. If I kill TB and restart, then it's back. I have no idea what ops might cause it to vanish. Any idea what's causing it to vanish or what I can look at?

Please provide guidance on how to fix this issue. When I attempt to transmit an email I get the error: "Add security exception, Location: smtp.aol.com:465 This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information." When I Confirm Security Exception I get: "Send Message Error: Sending of the message failed. Peer Certificate issuer is not recognized. The configuration related to smtp.aol.com must be corrected." I cannot receive any emails either. No error message just no new emails since 5/29/2024. I have verified the settings needed and checked my system that they are correct. As this happened after an update I think this is your bug.

Blank 12/31/1969 emails and Archive folder

Two related problems I think:

1) I have never used the Archive facility, and I've unchecked the box in the Copies & Folders | Message Archives | Keep message archives in - for all the mailboxes. But I'm still getting *some* messages appearing in the Archives mailbox that now has no subfolders. And I never type "A" when reading a message. Some messages just appear there. They are duplicated in the Unified Folders.

2) On a random basis (every couple of days) the Archives folder gets several blank messages the date of 12/31/1969 that I can't delete or read. They can't be marked as read either so they stay in bold. And a little while later they're gone.

I am running Total Defense as an anti-malware, and I saw elsewhere the suggestion to turn off scan of the mailboxes, but wouldn't that leave me vulnerable to malware that comes in via emails?

Any idea what's going on? TIA!

I opened Thunderbird this morning and there were no issues. Closed it and just now reopened and I'm getting this message: Thunderbird detected a potential security threat and did not continue to live.thunderbird.net. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

It downloaded 28 emails but will not let me see/access them.

Can anyone help? Thanks, Linda

Hi, I know 95% likely NOT to be Thunderbird but hoped someone might have some advise.

With TSOHost & they recently migrated me to xxxxxxxxxxxx.prod.sxb1.secureserver.net (no choice) I think this is a GoDaddy server.

emails use to Go instantly (talking about the delay between pressing send & it going, so I can go on to the next. Not how long it takes to get to the received. Now 4 to 10 seconds, I guess 6 or 7 seconds on average. Short emails, no attachments, size seems to make no difference.

SSL & ports etc. all seem fine, it works, just slow. Not changed anything else in TB apart from the server name.

Is faster direct from webmail but prob. around 4 seconds.

Thankfully receiving is just as fast as before, again the update of what is shown, not from X to Y. TSOHost once moved me in error & I had similar slow but also on receive, might open TB & it was 10 - 20 seconds, I think even longer, before incoming were show & updated. I got them to move me back. I think then it was GoDaddy underneath. TSOHost say its down to the client, which seems unlikely if the day before migration it was OK.

Any advise/ideas. May not seem a lot but doing through lots of short emails, it does slow you down.

Can't see how virus detection could be involved, as nothing changed, perhaps a difference server, Windows defender is doing some more stuff, wild guess?

I just marked an email as spam/junk and I expected it to be moved to the spam folder. Unfortunately this did not happen. Even after restarting (latest version)Thunderbird the spam mail is still in my inbox. It's a bit disappointing and unexpected. Am I doing something wrong, or does this kind of functionality depend on the imap server?

A couple weeks ago I started to have Thunderbird problems with a server timeout or unable to connect. I could neither read or write messages. I've set up Thunderbird using the ports specified by my ISP (lmi.net) without fixing the problem. My provider says that I may be overloading the server for some reason, and the mail server is blocking my ISP address under the assumption that the overloading is a spam attack.

I've discovered that there is another generic mail client on my PC that was apparently installed when I upgraded to Windows 10. I remember being asked for my email address when I installed Windows 10, but never thought they were asking for client email installation.

Have you run across any problems like this?

Every-time I open up Thunderbird e-mail Version 115.11.1 (64-bit) to access my Outlook E-mail Account, it pops open a box wanting me to enter my password! :-( I can enter it and mark that box to use "Password Manager", but it doesn't matter if I check that box or not, because every-time I reopen Thunderbird it asks me for that password again! :-( This problem just started in the last few weeks...... Once I enter my password, I can receive and send e-mails just fine, but when I close Thunderbird and reopen it, that popup box reappears again, where I must enter my password. (see picture I attached) If I just X out of it, I can't access my e-mail at all, as that box asking for a password, pops back open again asking me for my password AGAIN! Which by the way is 100% correct, as I can access my e-mail through Firefox, Google Chrome or Edge Browser just fine. I have used Thunderbird for years and have NEVER encountered this problem before, I hope you have a fix! I am running Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2. Thanks in advance! Keith

Thunderbird has for the past few days begun giving me this error message every time I lick into your program. "Login to server imap.gmail.com with username rg.mccormick43@gmail.com failed". I am also recieving this message for aol.com.

Interestingly, gmail messages continue to come into the program but I cannot send any messages. Unless this is fixed quickly I will drop your program and go back to using google, which I hate, for my email program.

For months I was experiencing the problem of "Thunderbird not responding" occasionally. It was a short duration issue (a few seconds to a minute). I reinstalled Thunderbird several times without success. I read almost every comment available online about this problem and I tried many ideas and recommendations I found without success. Most recently the problem became so serious that it was not a nuisance any longer. It was nearly impossble to work waiting for minutes to open an email or to continue typing while preparing a message and being interrupted by the problem I am describing. I ran Thunderbird in safe mode and determined that none of the add-ons is causing the problem. I turned the firewall OFF and determined that firewall was not causing the problem. I then decided to run Thunderbird in Offline mode and found that the program works normally. Then while in Offline mode I decided to download more messages and the program asked me if I wanted to switch to the Online mode. I said yes. New emails were downloaded and without going back to the Offline mode I was able to work normally without any occurrence of the "Thunderbird not responding" problem. I have been using this workaround for several days now. I download a number of eamails. I try working in Online mode and I cannot do it. I switch to Offline and work fine. I switch back to Online mode and I don't see the problem any longer for the whole day. Do you have any idea as to the origin of my proble? I am running Thunderbird 115.10.2 64 bit on Windows 11. I had the problem originally using Lenovo T490s and more recenlt Lenovo X1 Yoga

For the past several years I have been dealing with Thunderbird occasionally freezing on me, with the window losing focus and the titlebar saying (Not Responding).

It appears to happen when TB is downloading email. If the emails are large (as some are) TB stops everything to deal with it. I have looked for where to change any settings to allow for process threading, since that was the promise of Windows waaaaay back in 1990. Not so, apparently with TB. Even if I'm in a separate window composing an email, it freezes. I wrote about this back in 2018...

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1233121

I noticed that this only happens when downloading emails from one particular account, which I use for receiving project code error debug reports. The emails are typically around 150k or slightly less. Not so huge that it should take so long to pull down, but the debug info is in many, many nested tables and divs. Is it trying to render them, even though I don't have them open?

In any case, I set that account to no longer collect. Yet, every once in a while, it still collects. Do I need to remove the account from TB altogether? I would like to be able to have this account checked every 15 minutes like my other five email accounts, which don't cause me any heartache, but it's driving me mad, especially when a throng of those emails come in, like 50 at a time, and I am effectively prevented from doing anything in TB for up to five minutes. I suppose I could craft the emails to be smaller (it's my own code that is sending the debug reports) but the info in there is there on purpose.

Is there a setting I can change somewhere to break off the processing for the main window and the compose windows?

Good afternoon I have 2 accounts in Thunderbird - a gmail and a Yahoo. Both were running great from the time I set up Thunderbird about 2 weeks ago until yesterday when the gmail account stopped sending and receiving. The Yahoo account is still fine. I have not received a message in Thunderbird in my gmail account since, although I have logged in on the web and confirmed that there are incoming messages in my account.

When I attempt to send a message from the gmail account I receive an error message - "Add Security Exception". If I click "View" nothing happens. If I click "Get Certificate" the section "Unknown Identity" changes to "No Information Available". However, when I cancelled the message I noticed a new error message appeared - "Send Error Message" and when I returned to the main Thunderbird screen I noticed a new tab appeared "Certificate for smtp.gmail.com".

As you can imagine, I seem to be getting nowhere with this and as I am only an intermediate user with computers I don't know where to go next. Subsequently, I sincerely hope that someone out there is able to help me. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

The following are my Thunderbird settings for the gmail account :- Incoming Server Server type : IMAP Mail Server Server name : imap.gmail.com Port : 993 User name : [myname]@gmail.com Connection security : SSL/TLS Authentication method : OAuth2

Outgoing server Description : Google Mail Server name : smtp.gmail.com Port : 465 Connection security : SSL/TLS Authentication method : OAuth2 User name : [myname]@gmail.com

A copy of the error messages as well as the Certificate are attached.
