The Master Password, if set, does not allow the Password Manager to fill in any passwords unless the master is entered.

Are you being asked to supply the master, or is the issue with the website?

It asks me to supply the existing Master Password before I can turn it off.

It describes my problem perfectly. I do NOT have the master password it wants.

At some point, someone created the Master. The only way to remove it is to supply that master. Are you the only one using the computer?

WARNING ! https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Forgot+my+master+password Resetting your master password will remove all of your saved usernames and passwords.

Are you using Sync to sync any data?

Does Firefox ask for the master password if you open the Password Manager?

  • Options/Preferences -> Security: Logins: "Saved Logins" -> "Show Passwords"

If you have never set a master password yourself then try to reset the master password.

(I have locked your other question about this subject)

I AM the only one using the computer. I've never used Sync.

There are TWO firewalls in effect between me and the Internet. This makes no sense

What happen if you open the Password Manager?

"Show Passwords" is greyed out and therefore NOT WORKING, and just GETTING THERE, the pop-down window demanding the Master Password shows up THREE TIMES!!! I'd really hate to lose everything and have to re-do it all. I've had to change just my Log-In password 15 times in the last three weeks!!! There MUST be some other way to fix this idiotic Master pASSword Problem.

And by the way, everyone, please let me say before anything goes any further that I'd like to thank all of you from the bottom of my hard drive for your concern and help - even if we're still looking for the "magic bullet" suggestion for this problem. The fact that you guys (and ladies) are out there with your hearts in the right place does WONDERS for my flagging faith in humanity. COMPUTER PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, UNITE!!!

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Thank you, Cor-el and Fred McD. I will try your suggestions, but I don't have time at the moment. Tuesday, January 16, 2017, I'll give this a shot, following your suggestions TO THE LETTER. It all sounds pretty straightforward, and my guess right now would be that this should fix the problem. Again, THANK YOU, dear friends. And if all this works, I'll tell you how you can get a copy of my new single (and thank God I'M NOT SINGING IT! I'm just the entire band). It was released worldwide last Thursday. So if this works, I'll be asking you, Cor-el and Fred to write me at my secret e-mail address for info on how you can get your copies of the song! I hope you like it.

The trouble when you run your own business is that often your time is not your own. Here is is WEDNESDAY NIGHT, and I STILL haven't had a chance to try the clean reinstall trick. Hopefully tomorrow...
