PDF file types keep reverting to Firefox - have to right click - "open with" to get PDF reader

The "FILE TYPE" is always showing as Firefox on my PDF files. To open a PDF file, I have to "open with" to get the reader to open the file. I have deleted PDF and reinstalled, I have changed the file type - it reverts back to Firefox, I have changed and updated settings but I can't get the file to open without right click, select open with and then select Adobe Reader.

hello bpatzner, does it work when you go into the acrobat reader > edit > preferences > general & click on the default application option at the bottom? in there reselect adobe's application and confirm this selection...
