Can't locate 2007 Excel spreadsheet files after uninstalling Firefox

Trying to open spreadsheets with Explorer that were saved with Firefox as browser. Are spreadsheets tied to browser used? If that's the case I plead ignorance. Is there anyway to recover? I am somewhat technologically challenged so please answer in layman's language. I reinstalled Firefox but no cigar. Tks so much! Hopes this makes sense...

hello dflhoo, are you sure that you've downloaded & not just opened the spreadsheets directly with excel (in the latter case they get downloaded to a temporary location where they might get deleted after a one-time-usage)?

normally downloaded files are not tied to your browser - they will still be accessible without any problem after you've uninstalled or switched browsers and are located at the place in the file-system where you've originally downloaded them to (in firefox per default that's the download folder within your user folder),

I did eventually find my "missing" Excel file in temps. For some reason I couldn't locate for a long time but finally found when trying to save a similar file because my computer wanted to save to temp files. This was a learning experience and as you stated files like that are not related or tied to the browser in use. Also made me realize even more the importance of backups if you truly do lose a file. Thanks so much Phillip for your assistance on this one...
