My cat ran across my keyboard a month ago and the "home" icon disappeared from the top right corner of my screen. I have not figured out how to get the icon back. As of now, I have to close Firefox and open it again instead of clicking the "home" icon to get there. How can I restore the icon?

Thank you - at least I don't have to be concerned about that being the issue.

Right click on blank space near opened tab. You should see "Customize". Click on it and look for icon :P (just drag and drop where you want it to be, and click done).

There is no ":P: on my Customize screen - there is a bunch of other icons but nothing for Home. What now?

At the bottom-right corner of the Customize Palette, use the Restore Default Set button.

The Restore Default alone didn't work as there was still no Home icon. I solved it by: -going to Help, Troubleshooting Information where I clicked on the box (Reset Firefox) in the upper right corner. -Firefox reset and the Home icon appeared in the Navigation toolbar. I then did the Customize Palette action to drag the Print icon to the Navigation toolbar. - after that, I had to reset my Home Page. Everything worked then.

Do you still ahve the Navigation Toolbar visible?

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • Firefox menu button > Options
  • View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file if the above didn't help.

In essence, I did (see previous note) what you suggested and I was able to get the Home icon. However, when I signed on this morning, the Print icon was still there but, the Home icon was again missing from the Navigation Toolbar.

I tried the Restore Default Set button, but, that just deleted the Print button from the Navigation Toolbar and put it back into the Customize window. My Navigation Toolbar has, at the very left of the Toolbar, a Lock symbol and then the words "Mozilla Foundation (US)" . Could this be a rogue toolbar which is causing the problem?

If you are on support.mozilla.org logged in, "Mozilla Foundation (US)" means that the site has been verified and owned by Mozilla. No prob there.

See this about the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock and domain label) on the location bar:
