Norton Identity Safe with Firefox

My Firefox upgraded today, and now I can't use Norton Identity Safe. Having reviewed other questions I have updated my Norton product via live update, but this has not resolved the problem. Any suggestions? According to the add-on page I have 2013.4.0.10, not sure what version of Firefox

unfortunately i don't know anything about the internals of the norton liveupdate - it's just that their website tells that version 2013.4.1.2 of the toolbar is current. if you don't get this version of the addon despite running liveupdate repeatedly you might want to try contacting norton's support to get the product to work.

also if you're using a comcast version of the security product, judging from prior reports by other users, this might be always a few weeks behind in the update schedule...

hello, according to norton the toolbar version 2013.4.1.2 is compatible with firefox 22. please run the norton liveupdate repeatedly & until all components are up-to-date. in addition make sure that the toolbar is enabled under firefox > addons > extension afterwards.

Thanks for responding so quickly, but when you say repeatedly, how often because I think I've now done it about 20 times and still when I check the add-ons page, Norton products are still greyed out, and therefore I can't enable them. By the way Norton live update is suggesting that it is up to date,and that no updates can be found. Also you suggested, I think in another answer to review live update history but I can't see how to do this. Again thanks for helping.

philipp, Thanks for your help, I will just keep trying, not sure what a comcast version is, but I don't think that applies to me, as bought as a proper version several years ago and update and renew as required. I will try Norton next.... Debbie

yes, in this case you should certainly have the regular version installed that offers updates without delay (comcast is a internet service provider that apparently offers the security suite to its customers for "free").

Update Norton if it has a problem with a new version off Firefox. At this moment in time you should be using Firefox 23.0.1

If you are not prepared to use a secure and up-to-date Firefox you would be better off with an alternative and up-to-date browser.

I had this issue too with Norton stating download was safe and would not install, to solve this I disabled auto update in Firefox, then downloaded the latest version of Firefox via IE did an install unchecking the Firefox as default browser, and then installed Firefox v22

Ran Norton update and opened Firefox then the Norton identity safe toolbar was there and Norton had stopped that annoying download error too, then reset the auto updater. Hope this helps anyone, also this cleared cleared the error regarding the update with the Norton error too.

Then once you have the update installed recheck the auto update in Firefox. Issues are solved and Firefox is ready to use again, thanks for the feedback but as you are well aware that updates sometimes go wrong and users come up with a solution please don't shoot them down without try the way stated it works and is successful and then finally check the auto update box again.

It is NOT recommended to downgrade or stop upgrades on Firefox.

Norton users may well be security conscious and aware, but note old versions of Firefox are not secure and using Norton is unlikely to protect you if you use an insecure browser. The best solution is to keep both Firefox and Norton up-to-date.

Your reply does not deal with the issue as displayed this worked for me, I know the risks of turning off the updater, but for the amount of time it is not on is not going to affect the programme is it? if so please state in your humble opinion that the programme has vulnerabilities, you can't have it both ways can you? As stated the auto updater was disabled for the download and upgrade then re instated till the next issues with the next update from Mozilla.

I have only just learnt how to use Firefox since being an avid user of IE its a great browser and will have issues when upgrading that's a fact this is a solution take it don't take it its just a solution that worked for ME

Hi mikeymack,

May I ask does it not work simply leaving Firefox updated and then upgrading Norton. You may have Norton's toolbars or whatever ancillary functions not working for a while, but that does not affect your security much; if at all; and is remedied as soon as you update Norton.

I have used Norton in the past, and although I personally do not use it now, I do know others who currently use it. I am not aware of any necessity to downgrade Firefox to fix Norton problems. It is Norton that needs updating once Firefox changes version. I understand such upgrades to Norton are made available to coincide with Firefox upgrades.

This is exactly what gets my goat when someone does not read a post correctly, so will put it in simple terms for the responder that is not sure what is said

1 temporarily disable Firefox auto update 2 download the new version of FIREFOX 3 Simply install the new version 4 reset auto update in Firefox then there will be no issue with Norton Norton does not need updating just simply that it doesn't like the new Firefox update at present, as seen on many other forums SIMPLES xx

Having spent just a few minutes working this solution out take it or leave it, there is no need to update Norton is there?

This is an old thread and the question was asked in relation to Firefox 22.

We are now on Firefox 23.0.1

If anyone has a problem using Norton with Firefox 23.0.1 or Firefox 23 please start a new thread. Use /questions/new

If I understand that correctly mikeymack2002 is saying Norton does not like the Firefox updater. If that is the case it is a separate problem.Please start a new thread.


I do not wish to go off topic and continue discussing Firefox 23 and Norton here but will just add some information before locking this old and solved thread.

With regard to Firefox 23 please note this Norton post about Norton not now being compatible with Firefox 23

Also note Norton sites may have a problem with Mixed Content Blocking (MCB) that my be an issue from Fiefox23, but there is no need to downgrade Firefox, just click on the shield in the Firefox addressbar and allow the Norton site.

Bug 905183 - https://community.norton.com/ mixed content blocker problem with the sites top level navigation.
