Since updating to Firefox 22 I've had nothing but problems, and now my spell check is not working.

I have it selected in options to check my spelling and it's not doing anything.

Please help

Do you have a dictionary installed and selected?

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu. At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.

  • Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
  • Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

You can look here for dictionaries:

Had to restore Firefox to default settings without loading add-ons, was getting screen lag and frequent crashing after updating to the latest v.24 Just could not identify the problem but fortunately the restore seemed to do the trick except for the spell check function which ceased to work. Downloaded the British English pack, problem solved.

Hi, My problem is mostly with Thunderbird, I have dictionaries installed in Thunderbird but thought that there might be cross talk with Firefox , so I installed dictionaries in Firefox too. I am using Firefox and Thnuderbird 24, installing dictionaries and with spell check activated does not sort the problem in Thunderbird although it fixed it in Firefox. I have to say that it is quite intricate to have to install dictionaries to enable spell check in Firefox! Why is a default dictionary (depending on the system language) not installed by default is beyond me! Anyway, the problem still persists in Thunderbird and it is extremely annoying! Cheers, Rv

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information. Click the "Reset Firefox" button. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied. Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Some (most) dictionaries have a license that in preventing them to be included in the Firefox installer.
If that is the case with the dictionary of your locale then you need to install the dictionary yourself.

I use the add-on or extension After the Deadline and that seemed to fix things for me as far as spell checking in Yahoo or other web email programs.
