I no longer can sign into a public library I used for decades.
Since I downloaded a Firefox security update yesterday, I no longer can receive a newspaper and click on the read today's issue in my email. Today, I went to a library to sign in and was told it wasn't safe. Firefox refused my access. I have used that library site for 15 years and never had a problem. I have tried to manage various parts in Secuity and Privacy but nothing works. What is going on with this extreme security and how do I change it or do I move to another browser that has flexibilty. I do not want to give up long time sites because Firefox doesn't approve.

There's a lot of services unavailable globally for multiple reasons over the past week, one of which is e.g.: https://www.newsweek.com/fbi-issues-advice-as-security-issue-hits-global-websites-12603155 — so some site operators might still face downtime.
Dear jbr - Thank you for this information. Somehow I missed this concern abut PHP. Is it accurate tosay you suggest that Firefox/Mozilla securities recently are heightened because of the PHP vulnerabilities? If this is the case, then I will hold off leaving Firefox and see if availability changes in a few days or so. Otherwise, is Mozilla becoming extreme with site restrictions per the usual days? I feel very limited in acquiring info. I visit typically legitimate and familiar sites, not off the wall sites.
No, this is affecting the site operators — including governments, wikipedia etc. — everyone's having a rough week. Most big providers reacted by shutting down their services temporarily, before they can rectify the issues with their vulnerabilities.
Firefox doesn't restrict access to any sites, unless they are either compromised and reported as such globally, or their infrastructure affected by some security incidents — but that happens elsewhere on the line to you, the browser only interprets and shows whatever it receives.
Thank you, jbr. I was ready to blame Firefox for every limitation and prohibiting me from pursuing sites I want to visit.
One more piece of info re: the library site. I investigated further and it might be that the library has not renewed its certificate. I don't know how to verify this because I cannot go to the site. My understanding is that it might take awhile to for the renewal to happen.
If you're getting a specific error on a particular link, please share the details so somebody can tell you more. To learn more about the types of errors being reported, articles are available with the descriptions and meanings of some of the most common causes:
The recent message said someone/some site might be posing as the website to get my info. I sent you an email then I signed out and went to Safari. There was no problem accessing the library site. Below is what is got from Firefox when I typed in the library site. After the info, there were two options: Advanced Go back to(recommended).
Be careful. Something doesn’t look right.
Firefox spotted a potentially serious security issue with www.librarieshawaii.org. Someone pretending to be the site could try to steal things like credit card info, passwords, or emails.
Revoked today, potentially on security grounds. (Other browsers might be slower to pick up the invalidation. I already see it at the issuer site, Godaddy, published as revoked earlier today.)
Firefox is warning you about this site because the certificate provided for www.librarieshawaii.org has been revoked and isn’t trusted anymore. Error Code: SEC_ERROR_REVOKED_CERTIFICATE
Revoked at: Oct 22, 2026 12:27:01 AM
https://ssltools.godaddy.com/cert-check
"This certificate has been revoked. Reissue and reinstall the certificate on www.librarieshawaii.org as soon as possible. It's no longer valid, and some browsers and apps may reject it."
So that is something Hawaii State Public Library System IT folk need to address on their side.
(There will be many compromised systems over the coming days and weeks, unfortunately. Most likely connected to the PHP security issue I linked earlier, and leaked secrets and key material, or malicious content planted.)

jbr,
Thank you for the info. I find it helpful that you checked the site and, consequently, gave me clarification and an improved understanding.
