Share bookmarks, tabs and more with your other computers

You can use Firefox Sync to synchronize your bookmarks, passwords, settings, history, and tabs with Firefox on other computers. First just set up Firefox Sync on your main computer and then add each of the other computers. Note: This article doesn't apply to your version of Firefox. It requires the latest Firefox version which can be downloaded from mozilla.org/firefox.

Part 1: Set up Firefox Sync on your main computer

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select OptionsAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu and then select OptionsOn the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences...At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences . In the OptionsPreferences window, click on the Sync tab.
  2. Click Set Up Firefox Sync.

  4. Enter your email address, create a password and confirm it. Then check "I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" and click NextContinue.
  5. This is your Sync KeyRecovery Key. Now is a good time to save or print a copy of your key and store it somewhere safe. When you are done with this step, click NextContinue.

    The Sync KeyRecovery Key is used to encrypt your data before it's sent to the Mozilla servers. Think of it as a key that locks your information in a vault that only you can open. This means that neither Mozilla nor anyone else can read your information without having your Sync KeyRecovery Key to unlock it.
  6. Confirm that you are not a robot by entering the text from the image. Then click NextContinue.
  7. You will see a Setup Complete! message. Click FinishDone to close the setup window and take you back to the Sync panel.

  8. You do not need to do anything else. Firefox Sync will automatically sync your data in the background from here on.
    This first sync should happen quickly but may take more than 30 minutes depending on how much information needs to be synced.

  2. Click Create a New Account.
  3. Fill in your account details:

    • Confirm that you're not a robot!

    • Finally, click Next.
  4. You will see a Setup Complete! message. Click Close to close the progress window and take you back to Firefox. Don't worry, your data will continue to be encrypted and uploaded in the background.

Part 2: Get the easy setup code from your other computer

Do these steps on the second computer that you are trying to add to Firefox Sync.

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select OptionsAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu and then select OptionsOn the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences...At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences
  2. Click on the Sync tab.
  3. Click Set Up Firefox Sync.

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click the Tools menu and select Set Up Sync. The Firefox Sync Setup window will open.
  2. Click I Have an Account.
  3. The code to add this computer will be displayed.

Part 3: Connect your other computer to your Sync account

Do these steps on the computer from Part 1.

  1. In the Firefox Sync Account section, click on Add a Device and the Add a Device window will open.

  2. Enter the code in the Add a Device window as it's displayed on your second device. Then click NextContinue.

  3. When the code is accepted you will see a Device Connected message in Firefox and your device will immediately begin syncing. Click FinishDone to close the setup window and go back to the Sync panel.

  1. Click the Home button (or type about:home in the location bar) to bring up the default Firefox home page.
  2. At the bottom of the home page, click the Pair a Device link and the Firefox Sync Setup window will open.

  3. Enter the twelve character code generated on your other device and click NextContinue.

What if I'm not near my first computer?

Do these steps on the second computer that you are trying to add to Firefox Sync.
If you are trying to add another computer to Firefox Sync and you are not near your first computer so that you can enter the code, you can still get it done by entering your account information.

  1. Click Set Up Firefox Sync.

  2. Click I Have A Firefox Sync Account.
  3. Enter your Sync email address and password and then click NextContinue.
  4. Enter your Sync Key and then click NextContinue.

    Your Sync Key is a long series of characters that was created for you when you set up your Sync account. You can find it by following the instructions in Where can I find my Sync Key?

  5. You will see a Setup Complete screen. Click FinishDone to finish adding this computer to your Sync account.
