Many of the gestures you already use to navigate around your Android device can be used in Firefox. Firefox for Android also includes gestures that help you switch tabs, access the tab tray, zoom pages, and interact with supported AI features.

Firefox for Android has a special feature that enables zooming on websites. See Force enable zoom in Firefox for Android Beta for more information.

Switch tabs by swiping the address bar

This feature requires Firefox for Android version 81 or higher. See Update to the latest version of Firefox for Android to learn more.
You can quickly move between your open tabs by swiping left and right on the address bar.

Open the tab tray with a swipe

You can quickly open the tab tray using a swipe gesture on the toolbar.

  • If your toolbar is at the bottom of the screen, swipe up on the toolbar.
  • If your toolbar is at the top of the screen, swipe down on the toolbar.

This opens the tab tray, where you can view and manage your open tabs.

Opening the tab tray with a swipe is on by default in Firefox for Android, but you can easily disable it if you want:

  1. Tap on the three-dot menu, and then tap on Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Customize.
  3. Scroll down to Gestures, and disable the Swipe toolbar vertically to see open tabs option.

Shake to summarize pages

On supported webpages, you can use a shake gesture to generate a page summary.

  1. Open a supported webpage.
  2. Shake your device from side to side.
  3. If page summaries are available, Firefox will begin generating a summary.
Note: Page summaries are only available on supported pages and may not be available to all users.

To learn more, see Summarize webpages in Firefox for Android.

Zoom in and out

To zoom in and out on the page you are viewing, you can double tap the screen or use a pinching motion. To learn more about how you can use gestures to zoom, head on over to Zoom in and out of websites on Firefox for Android.

Long tap for more options

A long tap--touching and holding on the screen--will trigger the context menu for what is tapped on.

  • Links: Open in a new tab, copy, share, or add it to your bookmarks.
  • Images: Copy, share, or save the image to your device.
  • Bookmark links: Open in a new tab, share, edit how it appears in your list, remove it, or add it to your homescreen.
  • History links: Open in a new tab, share, remove, or add it to your homescreen.
  • Text: Long tap on text to select that word; you can then use the orange indicators on either side of the word to highlight more text if you like. Long tap on the highlighted text to copy, share, or to select all the text on the page.
  • Web Address: Share, subscribe or add a page to your Home Screen. If a site has its own search that follows OpenSearch standards, you'll have the option to add that site as a search engine. This allows you to search within that site directly from your search bar.
