Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

Hi, I'm a member of the Searchnu Support Team. I'm here to assist! :)

@cckate- When the software was installed onto your pc it offered two basic installs, typical installation, which lists the add-on features such as searchnu default search, and Custom installation, which allows you to select the add-ons that you wish to install. There's no need to worry if you did the typical install - this isn't a virus, nor malware, and there's no need to Perform a virus scan against it.

If you wish to uninstall Searchnu please follow the next instructions: Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > look for windows searchnu toolbar > Uninstall

Please let us know if you need any further info. :)

I tried to do this, found the file and removed it, but my default homepage STILL comes up as Searchnu...and i DONT WANT IT. I want to change it back to google as it was before

i hate these programs that go ahead and change your default setting and mess with your computer.

Has anyone else experienced that also AFTER uninstalling it, would appreciate a reply. Thank you.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for searchnu (or the URL that you get) via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.
  • Reset all TEXT related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.

Someone else may have suggested this - I haven't checked - and there may be quicker ways. I had Google on my Mozilla Firefox page, and found that searchnu had replaced it. After looking at some othe replies, I clicked on Tools in the toolbar at the top of the page, then Options, which showed that www:searchnu.com continued to be listed as the Home Page. I simply replaced it by www.google.co.uk and hit OK, and there was Google, back again.

I have just found Searchnu and I don't want it. Many suggestions for removal tell us to uninstall it from Control Panel. Except that in my case it isn't there to remove. Nor can I find it with Search (Windows 7).

Any advice folks?

I can answer my own question now. I used system restore and it worked. No signs of Searchnu.

Hope it helps someone else.

No need to do so radical things like system restore. of course of you have your computer configured properly, then you can do that. Searchnu is not a virus or malware but it is too annoying, that why users think it is.

What really pisses of is that if you installed Searchnu, there is no one click uninstall from everywhere. if you run several browsers, you will need to uninstall Searchnu add ons from all of them manually.

As a company fighting against all these kind of stuff we tested lots of removers to find ultimate one click removal.

We can assure you that you do not need any program to remove Searchnu, but you need to know exact places where to remove its components. Some of tested tools are free some are paid. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware is the usual recommendation we give, when people ask for help. But sometimes you need to use several programs along with MalwareBytes in order to fix the problem. Several other we provide at: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-searchnu.html

Stealth Crapware Definition see Searchnu.com. I think I have the quickest solution

Firefox Browser Tools -> Options -> Manage Addons -> Extensions

Locate Stealth Crapware Searchnu.com

Disable Stealth Crapware Searchnu.com

Remove Stealth Crapware Searchnu.com

NOW RESET YOUR DEFAULT HOME PAGE TO YOUR FAVORITE

First, navigate to your desired homepage

TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> Under box that has the current homepage default Select the button that says current.

That should do it..

Stealth Crapware Searchnu.com does more than replace your default homepage it also stealthily and clandestinely replace your default search engine in the search box contained in your browser header.

And it does more than anger you without provide a self removing app.

It spies on you and slows down your computer.

It also interferes with the automatically accessing to free WIFI hotspots.

Just wanted to comment that the System Restore process worked for me. After going through the other steps (uninstalling the program, removing searchnu from home page) I reset my system to a previous date. So far it has worked. I also scanned the system for malware and spyware.

I did not have to change profiles, but I did find the "funmods" extension. I recall that being added to my computer around the same time - also something I didn't want. So far it seems to have cleared up the searchnu problem I was having.
