How do I create a desktop shortcut by dragging the favicon, in Linux?

When I attempt to follow the instructions at this link: <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website?esab=a&s=desktop+shortcuts&r=0&as=s>, all I get is a copy of the web page saved to the location I'm dragging to. How do I get it to create a shortcut that will open up the URL in Firefox, as expected from that link, instead?

I'm using Linux Mint 11, with XFCE 4.8, Thunar file explorer and Firefox 15.0.1.
