I'm running xp pro sp2 : I recently upgraded to firefox 5 and would like to keep it. everything works great. My problem is that I use the xfinity tv guide online. I can use another guide ,but I like this one. all the set ups on the page ; ie zip code ,channel line up work fine. there is a drop down to change the d.s.t. + or - an hour it lets me select it but nothing changes. It's not on their end, and it works in explorer but its horribly slow and glitchy. I know this may sound petty at best, but I like what I like.... so any ideas ? thank you, ..... shredd

I like very much the current "Appearance" of my Firefox. I don't want to update Firefox even though I should, because I'm afraid the "theme" will not be available in the new version.

Are my "fears" reasonable - is it possible for an appearance to stop working in a newer version, or will it just always be there once I've downloaded it?

I have Firefox 16.0.1 installed on the hard drive of my desktop. When I run it, some of my bookmarked web pages take a long time to display the first time. To solve this, I have to reload the page once or more to get it to display. In some cases, the displayed page is distorted, and so I have reload it again until it displays right. I've tried doing a number of suggestions on this topic, but nothing solved the problem.

Anyway, I noticed when I run Firefox Portable 16.0.1 from my USB flash drive plugged into my desktop, my bookmarked web sites load quickly the first time and display fine, as well as all other web sites. I like to know the difference between the portable and desktop programs?

Information: Windows XP 32-bit home, SP3 (+ all Windows updates to 10-11-2012)

First, let me explain. I work in a support role for a company that utilizes certain element management systems to monitor and troubleshoot network faults. Due to our company's security and application support policies we are forced to use a dated version of Firefox and Java to access the EMS's webserver.

The problem: With the recent update to Mozilla's blocking policies the Java version we utilize is being blocked and access to the site no longer functions properly. We need some method of workaround that will enable us to circumvent the block.

Disclaimers ahoy: we actively and willingly acknowledge the risks that are inherent in actions such as I request. I would ask that discussion pertains to the topic as we need an immediate workaround to access our tool and a long-term -safe- solution will be cooked up with the help of our company's processes.

I am happy to provide any details that may be needed.

Thanks! EDIT: I resolved the issue myself: see reply below.

I jumped off the whole "rapid release" bandwagon a while back. (Actually, it wasn't THAT long ago, in terms of actual time, but it was ages ago in terms of version numbers)

After the problems with 4, 6 and 7, I just kept a 5.01 version installed on the computer and have been working with Chrome, primarily, since I feel more confidence it in than with the current direction of Mozilla.

Still, however, just because Mozilla has lost a certain amount of confidence with their ability to put out CONSISTENTLY solid, stable releases, and are probably prone to more bugs and problems, doesn't mean they can't occasionally turn out a great release, even better than the competition.

After all, the idea for "rapid release" seems to come from corporate, but there are still a lot of talented programmers on the Mozilla team, and they used to put out the best browser out there, until a year and a half ago.

So, I pose the question... are there any later releases of Firefox, post-7, which I should really take a look at? Ones without serious problems, with much of the recent technology, and efficient enough?

(I realize there will be many opinions, and all are welcome... just please don't try to sell me on the notion of "always use the latest version", since that's not happening until Mozilla adopts a wiser approach to development)

    • Before you read this question: NOTICE I am talking about Firefox Icons on Windows, NOT ON FIREFOX BOOKMARKS/PROGRAM!!!!! Read the question then please, please visit the link so you have a better understanding of what I'm asking with this question!!!!**

I've been trying to change the FileType Icons for the Firefox Documents for weeks now and there's no solution that I can see. I tried using Filetypes Manager to change the .html/.htm filetypes icons with no luck. Why does Firefox force this change on users when most users that use Firefox do so because of it's ability to be customizable? Even Microsoft Word .doc file icons allow you to change them! Microsoft!!! Why is Firefox forcing everyone to use their ugly filetype icons? &____& I've yet to see this issue not only addressed but solved. Why does Firefox ignore this issue? I'd like my computer's icons to all be top-notch, and Firefox is preventing me from making my weeks of hard work go to naught. Please, please address this issue... if anything, tell your users why your program is forcing the icons on them in the first place when monopolies like Microsoft allow their users to customize program filetype icons.

If this cannot have a fix, why can't it be a new feature/addition to the newest versions of Firefox?

Edit: And because people are starting to get 'confused' I've included a screen shot of what I'm talking about because, for the love of god, people, I'm *not* talking about using favicons and bookmarks!
