Ironically, I made this support account just to ask this question and had to go to IE to verify. Anyway, Yahoo! Mail use to work almost flawlessly before a couple days ago. Basically, the page loads like normal when I have a good connection except that the ads on the sides are missing, my profile picture is gone, the "fancy" rounded edges of the buttons are nonexistent, none of the menus work or open anything, and all of the links are useless. I have been searching for solutions for two hours now and none of them are relevant or useful: - Clear cookies = when I cleared cookies, cache and history is when the problem first started; - Disable Ghostery = I just learned about it today and so never installed it, but I also checked to make sure it wasn't there somehow; - Start in Safe Mode = the problem is still there and the only change was that it loaded the page faster; - Disable AVG = I can't because I can't find it anywhere...; - Disable Security/Change Permissions? = I think this was a suggested solution, but it already allows Yahoo! Mail to load images and set cookies while blocking pop-ups, location sharing, and installing themes/extensions; - Update Firefox = No. I like my old version. I keep hearing weird and annoying things about updated versions of Firefox, and I'm not going to risk losing everything else just to get Yahoo! Mail back I started using Firefox (3.6.12) because IE was slow, but ever since I tried clearing the cache, cookies and history Firefox has been going slower. Oddly enough, all of my browsing history was not deleted because certain web pages (that I haven't accessed in ages) show up in the address bar when I go to type. Gmail works in Firefox despite saying my browser isn't supported, but Yahoo! never bothers me about my browsers and now its acting strange. By the way, I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but right before Yahoo! Mail took the usability train off a cliff, it reloaded (because clearing the cookies logged me out), then told me the internet connection was slow and that I can switch to Basic for better results. I decided to stick with Classic and then it "crashed". Anyone help with this would be appreciated. One of the reasons I switched to FF is because Yahoo! Mail was faster on it, and I'd hate to have to go back to IE... Thanks in advance!

When I am browsing I frequently close my browser to terminate my browsing by clicking on the "X" in the top right-hand corner. The expected result is the browser session is immediately closed.

have come across a large number of sites that capture this and then force me to answer a series of questions while preventing the normal close of the Firefox browser application. Is there any way to cause Firefox to ignore additional instructions when I select the close-button and just close? What I am experiencing is an abuse of how the program was designed to work. I won't elaborate on that unless someone really doesn't understand--I'll just stick to the facts.

I'm running a variety of Firefox on multiple systems, mostly Linux but 2 Windows boxes. I have 1 linux system running Firefox 3.6 and most of the others are on Firefox 19. If more details about version, os, or hw are required please let me know. On all platforms I experience the same issue.

Thanks!

After a no-error crash Firefox 3.6 came back with extra tab. Tried every listed method could find but this tab could not be stopped from coming up when starting the program.

Help.

Don't want to upgrade!!! Everything was working fine until this. I changed nothing. Was working when all of a sudden it disappeared - no warning, no error message. When restarted instead of coming up with the usual list of tabs to restore, it came up in a new tab with a list of plug-ins it wanted me to update.

Would like to get back to where it was before crash. Some of the plug-ins can't be upgraded and were fine before this happened.

I do a lot of legacy work - all the way back to Windows 3.1, 4.0 along with DOS, and Mac OS 7, 8, & 9. I have two machines that are dedicated to hardware and software that are over 15 years old, whose output is in the same time, and at least the quality, of today's machines - These were high end machines in their day. Certain functions on any machine are limited by physics and mathematics, making these ol' clunkers comparable to today's in speed and quality. On a third is software whose functionality was never duplicated, whose producers are extinct as companies. Doing this kind of work has unearthed a dearth of folks who need legacy support, who don't want to (They are my customers. They are right! I can only question so much of what they want, very tactfully and carefully.), are not going to, or especially, can't afford to, upgrade, especially after hearing of costs and problems. I see a lot of early versions of Firefox, as well as other browsers, especially Netscape. I even keep one PC that runs DOS in order to work with folks who still use DOS based programs that work, especially POS stuff.

That's why I'm retro. I deal with fossils which include paleo-Firefox.

This is not just with Firefox but with software in general and heavily includes browsers. One can't help but notice that upgrading often causes immediate problems with both the program being upgraded and other, many times, unrelated, programs, already installed, causing them to have to be upgraded and/or modified in order to work also. This is not free, in time or money. Windows Vista and ME were the epitome of what can happen with upgrades - lots of expensive problems! MS Office is THE classic example of overkill - too many features. Upgrading Firefox is no different. Being forced to upgrade, however, is reprehensible, and this is the way many internet associated programs have done. Since I saw a store owner doing his daily business with an extinct late 80s DOS program and he told me "it works fine, does my job as I need it done, why upgrade?" There are a lot of new things happening in technology, on the web especially - What if we don't want to access them or take part in them - I have no Facebook or Twitter accounts, for instance. What happened to "customer being right". What happened to our right to choose? (My choices have been to use other products which most of the time are not as good but much less troublesome and "respectful".)

Was working along when Firefox just quit with no error message - gone. When restarted a Firefox plugins page came up as main tab and will not allow me to change that. It is too costly and complicated to upgrade due to how it affects everything else - tired of all the expensive upgrades that make other programs and processes not work or work shitty. I am on Firefox 3.6 and it worked until this happened. There is no reason to fix what's already working fine. The problem is caused by this page while my setup was working fine. I just need it returned to where it was before this stupid crash. I tried to send in another note but your excuse for help had me waste even more of time to register and write this - no matter what I'm doing my time is very valuable and this has wasted a lot of it. I want to keep my present configuration, period. Need to know how to get rid og this plugins page once and for all. Been to all the "Help" stuff and many people are having this problem and they too are finding no solutions but to upgrade. Read my lips - upgrading screws up other things and causes problems with other processes and programs, period. My system was working fine before this - there was nothing wrong on my end. Been using 3.6 since it came out and am satisfied with it and have it customized down. Upgrading will cause havoc with my settings also. Productivity lost. Fun gone. Lets fix it so I can get back to what I was doing.

Firefox as well as other large companies does not allow access to human help when needed. Can't help about the volume. The volume of complaints and problems would not be there if the product was satisfactory to users and should not be released until it is.
