When I click the help button, there is not a troubleshooting option.

THERE IS A PROBLEM IN OPENING ANY FILE. WHEN OPENING - A RAPID SUCCESSION OF FILES OPEN, ONE ATOP THE NEXT, WITHOUT SHOWING FILE'S CONTENT. THIS CONTINUES FOR QUITE A WHILE. I MUST TURN OFF COMPUTER. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CHOOSE ANY OTHER FUNCTION WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING, IE : WHEN OPENING A FILE. AS IN , I CANNOT OPEN GOOGLE OR MAIL, ETC. AND THE FILES KEEP OPENING AS UNTITLED. I looked under my preferences and saw that I had custom history settings set, and though I couldn't find anything that made sense as to why my history isn't showing it up, I changed it back to the generic "Remember history." However it's still not showing any of my history. I'm confused.

Before anyone suggests it: NO, I can't upgrade, because circumstances currently require me to use Firefox Throttle or something like it, and I haven't found anything else like it. I also don't want to upgrade to a version that won't allow me to disable addon-compatibility checking.
Just recently, Firefox has developed a problem where it will simply stop downloading information - 0K/s transfer rate. This will often continue for several minutes, then the loads will resume as if nothing had happened, aside from those pages (like GMail) which are sensitive to loadtimes. I think the problem lasts longer the more pages I try to load simultaneously, but I can't swear to that. No other apps seem to be affected.

I used to be able to download books as PDFs from Google Books (Full View) until about 12 months ago. However, now when I click the PDF link, I get a dialog box that says "You have selected a PDF file (12 Kb), and it offers me options for download or opening. It's the Nitro PDF tool. If I do download a file it's always 12 Kb and it's not a valid PDF file. Most of the books, I'm looking at should be over 10 Mb, and all previously downloaded books were over 5 Mb.
I'm using Windows XP and Firefox 3.5.19, and PDF Download from NitroPDF.
Is there an add-on that will give me back the ability to download files ? or is there a conflict with something else that is preventing PDF Download from working ?
I can't see anything on NitroPDF's site about the add-on.

Whenever I select tools...options, nothing happens and if I wait a few minutes or click the mouse I get "not responding" in the top bar. FF also freezes on downloads. I would love to get this sorted out, I really like FF. I've tried to get answers in the past and have done what was suggested but nothing worked

Why aren't Firefox system requirements and release information made readily available via links on the main Firefox pages? I can find them easily enough via Google, but I wonder why they cannot be found from within mozilla.com. Even a search in "Firefox Help" with the string "firefox 6 requirements" doesn't find the information. Is it an oversight, the community is too busy, or is it assumed that such information is not relevant in this day and age?

I folowed links and pressed download new version, but I still get notices saying I need the new version. Today my gmail account said I need the new version and so I downloaded again. What must I do to be acknowledged as having the new version?
