This functionality does not - nor has ever existed in any version of Firefox. (as far as I remember)
This question has been asked multiple times - and the answer is usually incomplete or too time consuming (especially for those of us who have over THREE THOUSAND bookmarks separated in hundreds of folders)
The only decent answer - used to be - to install an addon called SortPlaces: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/9275 - though for some reason the developer was offended by those in control of Mozilla and has pulled all of his addons from every site that is easily accessible - the newest version of firefox has broken this add on - and Firefox has a very useless sorting system. --
Sorting your bookmarks - one folder at a time - using a right click option - that only works when you 'view -toolbars-bookmarks' (or when you right click within the bookmark menu system) is a pitiful system -
Why can't you sort it when in 'bookmarks - show all bookmarks' ?? (well you CAN sort it there - but it will revert back to its un sorted form upon closing the interface)
Why can't you export it into a json - or html - then sort using a text editor - or some other program - then re import?
With the promotion of your online bookmark sync system you would think that something as simple as SORTING would have been covered...
Other topics comparable - with answers that are not valid:
1 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/760184 cor-el suggested right clicking each folder individually - or using the sourtplaces addon (which is no longer available)
2 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/837928?as=aaq various people suggest using the sort places add on.
3 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/752997?as=aaq SortPlaces is mentioned again - along with a link that looks REALLY OFFICIAL - and that link also suggests using the SortPlaces - the link says its not available at mozilla but can be found elsewhere -- but the latest firefox has broken it - so its useless now... the-edmeister suggested: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sorting_bookmarks_alphabetically
Not sure what happened with the developer of Sortspaces - I never used any of his addons or had any dealings with him - but he is certainly unhappy with the folks behind Firefox. http://www.andyhalford.com/
and HOORAY for Bookmark Duplicate Detector 1.1.1 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-duplicate-detector/?src=search (helped me get rid of over 700 duplicate bookmarks - got me down to 3400 total; the auto remove all does not work with firefox14 but the rest of it works fine- I just had to manually push delete over and over again for a few hours...)
- and the checkCompatibility 1.3 that allows me to load out of date add ons: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checkcompatibility/
The CheckCompatibility allowed me to install the Sort Bookmarks add on - and it looks perfect - but will not properly function...
I hope my post helps others who are trying to sort their bookmarks - and I hope someone has an answer for some of my questions - preferably the title question... lol

Ok. So I have been reading and reading on here. There is a website that autocompeltes in my awesome bar. It will NOT GO AWAY no matter how many times I clear ALL history, delete ALL cookies, etc. There is no bookmark saved with said website. (www.axlscloset.com).
The moment I type the letter "a" in my awesome bat, FF suggests www.axlscloset.com. I have also tried the SHIFT + DELETE on my mac. It is absolutely driving me crazy. What can I do short of resetting FF?
To update, this is happening with all letters of the keyboard. For example, "w" yield www.whitehouse.gov even though I have not visited it in months. "C" yield cbsnews.com.
Again, please note no bookmarks or the like are saved. All history and cookies have been cleared.
Thanks in advance.

OS: Windows 7 From: IE9 Browser To: Firefox (ver. 14.0.1)
When I attempt to Import Favorites from IE9, only a few folders and URLs are imported (maybe 200 out of 1000) to Firefox bookmarks. Is there a limit on this procedure? Also, I have about 4 levels deep of folders in my Favorites. Could this be a problem?
I appreciate any suggestions.

I've seen quite a few threads about this on here, and I'm now wondering if this actually ought to be reported as a bug...
I've always liked Firefox's better privacy options compared to other browsers, but this particular issue kind of renders them useless.
If I go to Tools>Clear Recent History>Everything (with ALL boxes checked) this does not have any effect whatsoever on the list of recently closed tabs & windows.
ie, If I then go to History>Recently Closed Tabs> all the previous sites I have visited are still there, despite having cleared "everything" from history.
Other threads I've seen on this topic, replies often suggest fiddling with settings in about:config or deleting/renaming sessionstore files...
Does anyone know of a more straightforward way to *actually* clear all browsing history?
Having an option to clear everything from the history is pretty useless if the next person using the computer can simply look at the 'recently closed windows' list and immediately see the sites you've been reading..

Hi all, I am trying to create a deployment for FireFox on our corporate network (still running XP). The problem I have, there are some/lots of people who already have a manually installed version of FF installed and I need to create a deployment that "takes over" the current install, including all settings for the %userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{FF.profile}. Located in this path is the places.sqlite file for bookmarks. If I was to create a complete copy over/install of %ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox and the above profile location, it would give a nice clean SOE install, but would over write currently bookmarked URL's. Part of the deployment, I have been asked to provide 6 URL's in the bookmarks.
Here comes the tricky question (Google has failed me on this one), how can I silently inject 6 URL's (preferably at the top of the bookmarks) into the deployment of FF, without wiping the current bookmarks owned by the user, and still "own" the install completely?
is there a way to list them in mozilla.cfg, prefs.js or something for injection to the deployment?
Thanks in advance for any information.
Edit: even if I can run the import wizard silently, that would be ok as well.

I have Firefox 15.0.1 on Win 7 Pro 64-bit. After browsing for a while, the back button sometimes stops working although it's not greyed out. It just does nothing. Back on the right-click menu is still fine and this is not site-specific. I've tried recreating the places.sqlite database and that doesn't help. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot, but it happens often enough so that this is a problem.

Memory cache device Number of entries: 731 Maximum storage size: 32768 KiB Storage in use: 15459 KiB Inactive storage: 15558 KiB List Cache Entries
And I note that it doesn't list a location [whereas for the offine it does:
Number of entries: 0 Maximum storage size: 512000 KiB Storage in use: 0 KiB Cache Directory: C:\Users\Bernie\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1rp651v2.default\OfflineCache
I've tried to move the cache directory and I set the browser.cache.disk.parent_directory in my about:config, but nothing has ever gotten written to that directory [it is already created].. I've done some research. I know about (about:config) and (about:cache). Maybe the weirdest thing is that (about:cache) shows nothing about where the temporary files cache is located. List Cache Entries shows all of the temporary files, but still no clue about where those files are located? [since "List Cache Entries" is under "Memory cache device", that's not helpful.]
I'm trying to move the temporary files cache to drive F. Finding their current location might help.
Please advise. Thanks.

I use Firefox often, and sometimes when I close down all the windows and restart Firefox, all my app tabs disappear. The last time I did this, I can recall
- being in a second window (with no app tabs)
- pinning an app tab,
- Closing all the windows
- Starting Firefox again
The app tab I pinned was there, but all my other app tabs were gone. This seems... unexpected. (Why doesn't Firefox just keep all my app tabs in every window synchronized with each other?)
