I am having trouble getting Java to work in Firefox (Opera too) on Mac. http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre tells me "We are unable to verify if Java is currently installed and enabled in your browser." Notice that when I access the page, Firefox wants me to activate Java in a pop-up. I did this.
I know that Java is installed because I can open the Java Control Panel. The setting "Enable Java content in the browser" is checked and Security Level is set to High. I have tried setting the security level to a lower setting, but that doesn't help.
I have verified that the Java plugin is enabled. I have tried clearing Java cache via the control panel - no luck.
I realise that Apple has blocked Java according to this article: http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/01/31/apple-again-blocks-latest-version-of-java-through-os-x-anti-malware-system. I have been able to get Java to work with Safari (this doesn't help for Firefox) by editing the file /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist, but that is only a temporary solution, as it shouldn't be necessary to do this edit.

Hello,
On my website I have a SSL certificate installed so you can reach it via https://www.example.net and http://www.example.net. To administer my website, I access it over https but when I just want to see the changes or simply visit the website, I don't want to see the the website over https. I want to visit it over the http. However, since Firefox "remembers" this website can be reached over https even when I type in the address bar www.example.net it takes me to https://www.example.net. I have to manually remove the "s" or enter the full http://www.example.net address in order to see the website over http. While some may find this default behavior desirable, I find it annoying and should I wish to access the website over https I will enter the full address with https at the beginning. My question is, how do I disable the Firefox from defaulting to https connection? I'd not like to disable completely the auto fill feature if that's the only way to do it.
Firefox 20.0 on OS X 10.8.3.

Ever since I updated to firefox 20.0 I've been having a problem with firefox. Every time I start up firefox I get a message saying that this is so embarrassing for trying but failing to restore my previous session and it gives me the option to either close the page and go to the welcome screen, or to restore my previous session. My preferences has the show my home page selected, and every time that I close out of firefox, I close the page by hitting the red x, and then I highlight either the firefox icon or the firefox tab at the top of my screen and select quit. I reset firefox twice and that didn't work either.

i just want it to go straight to the page or else i wouldn't have clicked on it in the first place. it's google. of course it's going to redirect me!

Ever since I upgraded to v20 of Firefox a problem has occurred where I will close Firefox properly (close browser and then quit application as I am on a Mac) but when I open it again I will get a message. This message is "Oh this is embarrassing..." and try to get me to reopen my tabs I had before. This will also happen if I have just one tab open and then close it. I was wondering if there is a way to fix it!

When I check my plugins, the following three, very closely related (in my mind) plugins are listed, and the "Renderer" still shows "Research" when checking to see if it is Up-To-Date. It seems to me I don't need all three. I tried removing the Renderer (yes, I know how to do that safely), but Google seems to continue to reinstall it (with one or both of the other two...?)...I'll ask this on a Google Forum too, since it's their product, but wondered if anyone has any insight. I obsess about plugins that need "Research" - Thanks! There has been a lot information and solutions based around Text Enhance being a browser issue. However, I find that this cannot be entirely correct. My site has visitors using various browsers and recently I have had several visitors complain that they are seeing Text Enhance on my site and only my site.
I can agree with them as I have also only seen Text Enhance on my site. I have seen it using a brand new Mac Pro without ever changing the default setting. I have also seen it on Android, again without ever changing the browser default settings. Not only have I seen it using several different browsers and machines but also using different servers. I have never seen Text Enhance on any other site I have visited.
