I'm running Firefox 10.0.2 on a Mac running OS X 10.6.8. Last week I made a bad mistake, and allowed "Codec-M" to load on my computer. This appears to be the Mac version of Codec-C.
It installed into Firefox as an Add-On. It's visible in the Firefox>Preferences>Manage Add-ons page, however there is no remove button, so I became suspicious.
I've found it's not where it should be. I opened the Firefox bundle in my user account and it's not in the Extensions folder.
The Firefox>Help>Troubleshooting Information gave me its ID, which is "{EEF73632-A085-4fd3-A778-ECD82C8CB297}". This appears on NO file on my hard-drive by a simple search, so whatever this thing is it's gone to ground. It's listed as being disabled, but with the other details considered, I don't trust that.
I used the instructions at "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20plugins#w_manually-uninstalling-a-plugin", exposed my plug-in paths, went to About:plugins and it doesn't appear in the list. All the other ones do, but it is not listed.
I tried going to the Global Firefox folders, but there's nothing in there either.
I'd appreciate some help. It might be coincidence, but my internet has been running VERY slow since this started, and I'm worried about my personal info.
How do I force this thing off my Mac?

This problem has been happening for a while. When I go to a website and click on a magnet link, firefox just crashes. It just comes up saying firefox has stopped responding and has to close. I'm trying to open the magnet link via utorrent. It says that you should update your download application (uTorrent) to fix crashes. I did and it still does it.
Occasionally, when I try to do a Google search, numerous "opening search" pop-up windows appear. I cannot continue typing in my search until I've closed all of these pop-up windows. How do I stop them from EVER popping up again?!

They are small pop-up windows. When I start entering in keywords to search, ever so often, these things pop-up and not just one. Many of them. Popping one upon another upon another upon another. I cannot enter anything new into the Google search box until I have closed all of these windows. And, commonly, numerous ones of them will pop up again when I enter in the next letter in my search.
This is what it says in the pop-up box:
Along the top it says in the light blue margin "Opening search"
Under the above and in a white box it says:
"You have chosen to open
[a Windows symbol] search
which is a: application/json
from: https//www.google.com
Then on the outline of an inner box, it reads "What should Firefox do with this file?" and it gives the following options:
Open with ["Browse" button]
DownThemAll!
Save File [This one is checked as the default]
Then a check-off box with the text next to it: "Do this automatically for files like this from now on.
Under that is an "OK" button that is gray and cannot be checked and a "Cancel" button that can be. I have never done either but used the "X" in the upper right corner of the box to close out this window.
Now I see I have limited options for "This happened" for frequency. It isn't every time Firefox is opened but it is FAR more frequent than "A few times a week". More like several times a day.

Prior to upgrading Firefox to version 10.0.2 my browser was working fine but after upgrading to 10.0.2 ,i see that firefox is taking up more than 1.5 GB of my memory, using upto 50% of my CPU and crashing.
In a span of an hour it has crashed twice. Normally i have around15-20 tabs open with multimedia apps running but now i have only few tabs (around 10) with no multimedia apps running yet is crashing !
I just don't know what firefox is playing at. I am very disappointed with the versions firefox is providing and the frequent updates. One issue gets fixes and multiple issues are introduced. i haven't installed anything new after this update.

When I restart firefox and open yt video, the player is always of the small size 360p. It just doesn't remember the player size. It was OK on firefox 10.0.2, so I reverted to that version, and it's working again, remembering the size. The same thing was happening few versions back. When I updated to FF 8.0 (from 7.0) it stopped remembering the size, but then it was fixed in later version, I don't remember which exactly, 9.0 or 10.0. So it was OK for some time, and now again exactly the same thing with 11.0. What's going on with FF? And can I fix it somehow? Because right now I'm stuck to 10.0, cause I'm tired clicking the large player button every time I restart my browser.

I do this, it won't work. make Hotmail a mailto: option in FF.
To make Firefox use Hotmail for mailto links, do the following.
- Type about:config into your location bar and hit enter. If you've never edited used about:config before, you'll see a warning.
- Click "I'll be careful, I promise!" This will bring you to the about:config window.
- In the filter field type "gecko". Double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value to true.
- Copy and paste the following text into the location bar and hit enter: javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto','http://hotmail.msn.com/secure/start?action=compose&to=%s','Hotmail');
- You will see an information bar drop down at the top of the window. Click "Add Application". You've finished installing the Hotmail protocol now you just need to select it.
- Go to Firefox>Preferences>Applications, if you are using a Mac, or Tools>Options>Applications, if you are using Windows. Now scroll down the list by content type and find mailto. In the drop-down menu to the right select "Use Hotmail".
- Next, return to about:config.
- If the warning comes up again, click "I'll be careful, I promise!"
- In the filter field type "gecko", and double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value back to false.

I installed the newest flash update and everything seems to be working fine at first. After installing it, I start up firefox and go test to see if a youtube video plays. Well, it does and everything seems fine. But, once I close FF and start it up again and try to go play a video on youtube, then it won't play. If I go an install the flash player again, I go back through the whole cycle of......install flash--->viedos work---> close firefox--->open FF up again--->videos don't work.
I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer. Flash and videos work perfectly fin on Chrome and IE. Can anyone tell me whats going on here?

This just recently started happening, whenever I'm browsing a webpage and scrolling through it. Firefox will freeze for about 1-2 seconds than continue scrolling. The same happens when I'm typing something. It's frozen about 3 times so far since I started typing this. Also when I watch any video, the video will freeze too. It freezes for basically anything I do. I know it's not my computer because I put a video I have stored on my hard drive, playing on the side of Firefox and every time the Firefox froze, the video continued to run smoothly. This is really annoying! I have the latest version of my plugins and the latest version of Firefox. How can I fix this?

Is there some feature in FF that allows a site to disable turning off separate tabs? Is this an exploit that certain pages are using? Or...is this an actual bug?

I had a problem with a virus after downloading some software. I sorted this with an antivirus scan but had to reinstall Firefox (newest version). Firefox works on my husband's account but not on mine. I wish I could attach a pic here, as I could just post a screenshot! The messgae comes up: 'Well this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering windows and tabs.' It suggests I remove tabs or start a new session. I try to click 'Start a new session' but it jams and I get the error message: 'A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: resource:///components/nsLoginManager.js:280' It doesn't let me do anything and Task Manager has a job shutting Firefox down
