Desktop sync is broken and instructs to obtain "Your Recovery Key" from a working device. Only working device is Android Firefox. What is the magic incantation to get Firefox (v21 beta) on Android to reveal the needed sync Recovery Key?

I try to set up Firefox Sync but as I fill in my e-mail address on the first line i first get the message "invalide e-mail account" (or similar) but then when I continue to complete it with www@yyy.com it just says "unknown error". I have tried several different e-mail addresses on two different computers but the same annoying unknown error message keeps coming up. What am I supposed to do about that?

Bookmarks vanished on multiple computers.

Error message on all platforms: Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error.

Android device seems unaffected. Attempts to re-sync good data from android device have no effect. I filed a bug report but after over 15 days it was marked as a duplicate and rolled into another bug report. The solutions there are way (WAY) beyond my technical level of expertise, and look to be for the unix OS. Something about a corrupt root.

I've been very reluctant to clear my sync data, because the impression I get is that I'll lose all my bookmarks. The entire reason I started using Sync was to back them up!

I have set up a Firefox Sync account lately. Yesterday, I backed up my laptop but forgot to back up the sync. Now, I can't set up the Firefox Sync service anymore, as my email address has already registered but don't have a sync key to access.

I would like to know how to reset the sync key.

The other day, Firefox Sync scrambled most of my bookmarks and I need to know if there is a way to restore a copy of my bookmarks from a point in the past. Thousands of bookmarks, all organized into folders, are now "loose" and unsorted. If I have to restore all of them, it would take weeks.

Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution?

At the bottom of the image verification box are the buttons for :sync options", "next", "back", and "cancel". Since no word image is visible, there is nothing to type into the text field and therefore, when I hit "next", I am treated to the white "x" in the little red circle icon and "Incorrect words. Try again". So I can get nowhere with this. Any possible solution?? Thanks.

Well, I got the impression from your original instructions that I would be able to set my own "secret phrase", but the screen pictured in the instructions page never appeared. I got instead another screen with a "Firefox Sync Key" which I was required to print or save.

Is this key the same as the secret phrase you mentioned? If so, can I change it? If not, how do I get to create a secret phrase?

I've installed Firefox 4.0 and created a new sync account but while trying to sync my data with Firefox Sync server I always get an error saying that it's impossible to connect to server.

All HTTPS web sites are working well.

I've tryed to use UltraSurf proxy instead of enterprise proxy and sync is working, so I guess that the problem is the enterprise proxy authentication of Firefox sync application. Any suggestion to solve the problem???

Hi, I just transferred over from xmarks at their suggestion. I have a few questions about how the sync works. I have two computers and an iphone that I'd like on my network. As far as I can understand, I set up three device names under one username. However, does this mean that when I merge my files from home with my files from work, the next time I sync my work computer it will have all my bookmarks from home as well? And will both my work and home bookmarks bog down my iphone? What about sharing bookmarks across computers? If I find a bookmark while at work that I'd like to move to the home computer, can I do that? Alternatively, are all the bookmarks kept seperate from each other, each sync registered under the device name, and the bookmarks never see each other? How would I move SOME of my bookmarks onto the iphone or another device? In otherwords, is there a way that I can control which bookmarks, passwords, etc are passed and merged on seperate computers? That's probably a stupid one, but I cant find a way to use Firefox Sync to see the open tabs on another machine. The plugins are working properly, the 'sync tabs' opt is checked and I've already tried the icon on the message bar [left and right buttons], the menu item for the plugin on tools, the tab on preferences and search the documentation and google... any help would be apreciated.

"Sync encountered an error whyle syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." Then there is a button for server status. What does this mean and what do I need to do? Firefox 7 Thank you.

So X-Marks announced it is shutting down. If I want to switch to Firefox Sync, is there something special I need to do, or can just remove the X-marks add-on and simply start using Firefox Sync?

Please know I am a 65yr old female neophyte. I am lucky I can follow directions and try to find answers on Firefox, which I love to try to use. Please excuse these questions -- A PhD in personnel/ administration is not an indicator of how ignorant I am in FireFox and computers." Let me say what I think I did: I thought it was a very neat idea to guard the names and passwords I use all over the Internet ... So I think I followed all the directions to store my passwords in the encoded "vault" - looked at the list of sites, names, passwords, and eliminated/ deleted wrong combinations on the list. carefully copied the sync key. Then came the Problem: it asked me for an email name and the password for it. So... I gave it ma2dsjb@yahoo.com I cannot find how to add into the "Firefox sync" the other email names and passwords? Some are on Yahoo, some on AOL, one on "live" and sites such as Facebook with its passwords

Then came another 3 problems from that: Can I still use the other emails ... how???? Can I still use the emails on another computer and access Facebook on another computer, and go surfing on the Internet, assuming I have the passwords written down and with me? Help

If I ever find myself in a situation where I can't download a copy of Firefox onto the computer I am using (i.e. at a public computer in a library, for instance), can I access my Firefox bookmarks and other data via a Firefox webpage accessed via a non-Firefox browser?

My Sync does not work since a week now. On the two mac I uses, Sync says it encountered an unknown error and will retry soon. But it haven't sync since a week now. I can't find any clue in the about:sync Can someone help ?

Today I got a message from www.xmarks.com that it is going to stop it's bookmarks synchronization service "XMARKS" add-on firefox from 10th Jan 2011. How should I import my stored bookmarks on www.xmarks.com to "FIREFOX SYNC" add-on? I could not find any option to import it in TOOLS -> SYNC -> PREFERENCES. Neither it's mentioned on xmarks.

Or probably it gets synchronized automatically?
