Upon upgrading from FF 16 to 17, I can still drag the icon that's to the left of the url to the desktop (or even to the XP Quick Launch Bar, Folder Shortcuts, etc.) to create an internet shortcut to the current page. However, with 17 this method produces a shortcut that shows a generic Windows icon instead of a Firefox-page icon. Even though a generic Windows icon normally denotes "no program associated," these still open with FF when double-clicked. But it doesn't look right. (BTW, all the shortcuts created by this method in FF 16 or lower retained the FF-page icon with the upgrade to 17.)

Any ideas why this changed and how to fix it so it looks the same as before?

Pending resolution of this (and another issue) I went back to FF 16, and it works normally again. However, the shortcuts that were created while I had 17 still show the generic Windows icon.

Firefox suddenly has become very slow. It takes too much time to load all websites and even the typed words and scrolling has a great delay in appearing. It becomes unresponsive very often. I tried reinstalling it and even reset it. Its becoming a pain to use this to surf the net. Please do help!!

Keep getting pop-ups on my computer. Contacted one of the companies the pop-up talks about. They have confirmed its not them and told me it sounds like I have spyware in my computer. They have advised me to download "adaware" or "spybot" search and destroy program, to scan my computer with. I would like to know if Firefox has something I can download ...thank you very much

power surge wiped out my LT video and external connections. I can see hd on network but cannot find out where the bookmarks are. Where can I go and get the book marks from the Firefox on my damaged system and move it to other LT I have? Firefox is latest version.

I like Firefox browser, but I can no longer use it on my one computer. It is an older computer, and the RAM is limited to a maximum of 512mb. Is there a reduced browser version I can run?

2nd question if you do not mind. I do have a newer computer I just purchased. I just installed your latest version of Firefox. Is there any way to reduce or limit the amount of "stuff" that loads on Firefox when it opens?

I want a new window to open with the thumbnails of my preferred websites.

I have set up the "Home Page" option with "about:newtab" and i'm pretty sure it was working until a few days ago.

I already searched the knowledge base and checked the parameters in "about:config" suggested in other topics (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/931476) and they are properly set.

My machine I have an old 2008 macbook with 2 system boots: Leopard and Snow Leopard. I'm pretty sure this setting was working fine on both and now it isn't on the Leopard boot. I know this OS isn't supported anymore, but I set the "about:newtab" AFTER the last update which notified the system wasn't supported anymore.

Since then, i haven't installed any extension or theme: the browser is a stock install with the last update possible.

current program is firefox 16.0.2.0; message says update. when I go to update, it says to download 20.0.1 but does not indicate if I need to remove 16.0.2.0 first. I'm not sure how to proceed. Thanks

WunderMap time shows EST when page opens in Firefox 16.0.2. on iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) OSX 10.5.8. When I open the same page in Safari, it shows the correct DST. Is there a way to adjust this in Firefox?

sw os microsoft xp sp3 v2002 ff v16.0.2 (not upgradable not to v18 nor v20) several plugins (few classics, see below) and addtional components (noscript, etc.)

problems 1)can't upgrade from v16 to v18 or any other higher version; downloading and installing v18 and restarting ff does not make any change, if not resetting all options and settings; i've tried several times within months; 2) although automatic check of new versions is unticked, at launching it often starts in default modus (all resets, history deleted, default starting page, etc.) as if made an autonomous upgrade/renewal to a higher version;

couldn't find any literature or contribution, if not the one of v12-13 for xp sp1 or 2;

theory could it be that ff 16.0.2 is the real last working version for ms xp sp3?

solution what are the solutions? if above mentioned theory is true, what can i do? at what stage is ff OS?

Today I have noticed it for the first time.. The icon use to look like a blank page with a mini firefox icon on it.. Now the htm and html icon looks like a blank white page that is bent on the top right hand corner.. I tried a firefox reset and it didn't help.. I don't wanna do a reinstall of firefox because I want to keep the old firefox download manager and not the new one that is on the right of the search bar.. ( I saw it on my ubuntu linux computer) BUT my computer with the html file icon problem is Windows 7 x64

The issue of occasionally getting a redirect to "wyciwyg://(number)/http://(regular URL)" in the Firefox address bar, when trying to return to some previously visited sites, has NOT been fixed.

  NONE of the previously entered alleged fixes, are fixes, or they would work for me, and they do not. A "fix", would fix it, period! 
  My workaround: simply highlight the part preceding the correct protocol and URL, delete it, and the remaining address works.
  But no Mozilla coders have come up with a way to absolutely PREVENT this from occurring. And it is very disconcerting. Others had it happen for different but specific addresses for them, I have had it only for trying to return to my yahoo.com email address by any of several methods. I have tried EVERY suggestion posted. It happens on two different computers running Win7: Pro32bit purchased retail, and Home64bit on a "stock" Dell laptop. I also experienced it on an XP Pro computer decommissioned last year.

Initially staring Firefox 16 takes a long time. There is no evidence that anything is happening (CPU, disk, or task manager programs) for 15-30 seconds before the program finally loads. Once it is running, performance is normal. Other browsers and programs launch immediately, with no delay.

I have tried starting in Safe mode, using a new user profile, clearing and deleting the cache, running CCleaner, resetting Firefox, and reinstalling from scratch. Add-ons and extensions don't seem to be the cause of the delay. It is interesting that the delay also exists while loading the profile manager (15-30 seconds before it opens), and also before the confirmation dialog to start in Safe mode.

I am only using Windows Defender. The problem still exists when I disable real-time protection.

I would appreciate any help getting Firefox running up to its full potential!

I want to download Flash player i save it to computer but the download stops at 99 i reinstall window and delete all files ,i have no antivirus,i have zero security firewall is turned off all files of other format can be downloaded easily but some .exe files stops at 99.PLease help SORRY for my english . i am pakistani

I am using firefox portable 16.0.2 as i am at work and do not have admin privileges. When i open You tube, firefox asks me to update adobe flash player. Flash player is installed and i can see videos using Chrome and IE. It was working fine a few days ago. I am guessing that adobe came up with some newer version and firefox wants me to update. I understand they do this cos they think the older version may have security risks etc. But i cannot update it (cannot ask the admin, they never agree). Is there a solution to this.

Two questions please... First one is above for the tab function. In Safari I just need to press control+option+tab to indent a tab within a text edit box on a website. This function is being used more via cloud and mobile capability.

Second... I can, in Safari, Copy and paste a site with tables. Works great in Safari. When I try to do this in FF I lose the formatting of the tables and it just give plain text without the tabled fields.

I would love to use FF because the compatibility if much greater than Safari, but... I need my functionality as well to do my work to the best and quickest ability.
