Firefox opens a new tab every time I click a link. When I click a link, I just want to go there, not open a new tab. This slows my computer, but I can't find an option to fix it in the tools.

I have just installed the new FF (which actally looks a lot like Explorere). I used to be able to type a word into the address bar eg: Facebook, and I would either be redirected immediately to Facebook otherwise FF would perform a google search. Has this feature been eliminated or is there a setting that can do this.

BTW, I do not like the new FF. The previous version was much more user friendly and visually pleasing.

Hi, is it possible to move the Bookmarks toolbar "on top" instead of tabs on top? Of course the "on top" option is cool to save some precious screen space. I like to use my Bookmarks toolbar and if I use tabs on top, then while switching tabs I need to travel much further with the mouse everytime compared to "tabs bellow". And of course switching the tabs happens much more often than using the bookmarks toolbar. So I think the ideal solution for me would be to have tabs down (as in Firefox 3.X) and use the "on top" space for my bookmarks toolbar. Is this possible? I can imagine that it wouldn't be to complicated Thanks for your reply

When I click and drag a sites icon to the desktop the shortcut is shown as a small Firefox icon on a small page background. I would prefer the shortcut to use the site's icon as shown adjacent to the URL.

Firefox is set as my default browser.

It would seem that the Mozilla people do not want negative feedback? The "Firefox made me sad" page will not allow me to submit anything. The "Submit Feedback" button does not do anything. The address is input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback#sad. I was unable to send more than one idea to the feedback at input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback#idea. Is there some kind of limit on the number of ideas that one computer will be allowed to send? Again, the Submit button does nothing.

When using a website with frames, there does not seem to be a way to let Firefox know if it's Find (Ctrl+F) command is searching in the wrong frame. I'm attempting to search the Java 6 SE API (http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/d.../api/), for example, but I can't figure out how to make Firefox search through the index frame.

This problem appears in (at least) Firefox 3.6 and 4.0 for Linux Mint. On Windows Vista, Firefox 3.6 does not suffer from this problem--it can sometimes be cumbersome to search through what you want (e.g. it will search through the frame you don't want first, then move to the other) but that's a minor inconvenience compared to not being able to search in the correct frame at all.

I want multiple web pages in one window i.e for example google.com and yahoo.com should open in one window,showing their respective home pages in one window in a rectangular box(in my words).

Okay folks. Mozilla is playing their cards very close to their chest with this one, though I can't understand why all the secrecy.

2012 EDIT Since version 7, Firefox appears broken and unable to recognize mms protocol. HOWEVER, if you copy your mms:// URL to a tab in the browser and edit it so that it begins http:// instead of mms:// then the browser will successfully hand the task onto your audio player, such as mplayer or vlc. So this provides a way to successfully skirt around the problem. There is nothing further in this thread applicable to versions newer than 7, so you can close this tab and go try it. Good luck!

2011: HERE'S THE SOLUTION for handling mms protocol for Firefox version 3.6 and versions near that, but not version 7 or later. This is Linux specific; I can't help you with Windows solution. Sorry. Linux Solution

I'm using Firefox 3.6.9 with these plugins: mplayer,quicktime,realplayer,shockwave flash,windows media player

In the firefox address box type this simple but weird-looking URL about:config and open it. Then right-click on any entry in the long list that comes up. Right-clicking brings up the menu we will use to create a new entry. Select new and of type boolean. Carefully type in the name of the new preference as network.protocol-handler.expose.mms and then select for its value false. We are finished with this window, so you can close it.

We now need a page with an mms link to click on. (For this step, it really must be a clickable link. It won't work if you just type the URL yourself.) Here's a page http://beelinetv.com/ with plenty of mms links including a delightfully-named Al Karma. Go there now and left-click on Al Karma. You'll see a window open. Double-click on Select an application and navigate through your file system to a media player you have installed which will handle mms streams. I have mplayer, and its pathname is /usr/bin/mplayershell. (You might have gxine, or totem, or VLC, or ... etc.) Click the box to Remember my choice. We're now done. Your new configuration info will get saved when you quit the browser. Now, whenever you click on a mms link, whether it's a movie, or radio or a television channel, the browser should automatically hand the job of playing it to your chosen player. Though I found I had to select the player a few times before it eventually remembered; firefox can be a slow learner.  :(

If you want your browser to also accommodate rtsp:// links, repeat the above. For handling rtsp audio stream, I use the helix player, through many will use realplayer. Don't forget, you'll need to find a page with a clickable rtsp link to set this up. Or you can create your own link, it doesn't need to have an actual stream. To do this, create a text file, say text.html containing this line of code:

<a href="rtsp://1.1.1.1/">rtsp link</a>

and open it in a new TAB in your browser, using a URL something like: file:///path/text.html. You should see a link to click on.

The job is done. You can ignore the remainder of this thread.

Just upgraded to "new" firefox and spent a lot of time organizing & naming new tab groups. Logged off and shut down computer yesterday. Today when I opened firefox and tried to access my tab groups via the tab group button, the window was empty......all my tab groups were gone? Nothing in the tab group tutorial indicates that I was supposed to save the tab groups once they were set-up. Why di they disappear?

I am wondering if it is possible to customize the location bar so that entering/editing a URL opens the page in the current tab, but entering a keyword search opens the results in a new tab. Any suggestions?

I want my mouse button four and mouse button five to do something outside of Mozilla Firefox. How can I make it so when browsing with Firefox, my mouse buttons do NOT browse backwards and forwards? Is there a way to turn this feature off?

I havejust downloaded Firefox for the first time, I've been using IE for many many years, so it's a complete change for me.

Where on earth is the favourites button? All I can see at the top is: File Edit View history Bookmarks Tools and Help there isn't a favourites button?

I'm using Windows 7 and firefox 4. when I download some files using firefox after or while downloading some thing, but in "downloads"(Tools>Downloads) window of firefox do not show (it's look like disabled) any thing. How solve this?
