Since today, Firefox starts automatically as a silent process consuming 30% of my cpu time and some 7 MB of memory usage. This happens on startup or while no visible Firefox is running. Killing the process causes the Firefox to restart, again silently, within a few seconds.

Opening a Firefox window for web browsing causes another Firefox process to start (parallel to the other one).

A file system search (search companion) for firefox.exe gives the following result: firefox.exe.hdmp firefox.exe.mdmp firefox.exe.hdmp firefox.exe.mdmp firefox.exe.hdmp firefox.exe.mdmp firefox.exe.hdmp firefox.exe.mdmp firefox.exe.hdmp firefox.exe.mdmp FIREFOX.EXE-28641590.pf firefox.exe

I recently installed a program GrooveDown v0.89 (just in case that would be useful information)

In the last few months, Firefox keeps crashing and I lose all my history and the ability to session restore. Yesterday (or the day before), it crashed then -did- sessionrestore successfully in the usual automatic way, asking me upon its launching, "This is embarrassing...". (Going to History, I only see Today. And, Restore Previous Session is always greyed out.)

I am using Firefox 20.0.1, and Windows 7. I routinely have "tons" of tabs open, but given my recent greyed out sessionrestores, I was down to only (hehe) about 40-50, most of which weren't loaded; I set them not to do so until accessed.

I have done the Reset Firefox option 2-3 times lately, which did not work for this, obviously.

Two questions: 1. Is there a way for me to find my session from its recent successful sessionrestore? That would help a lot. 2. What other things can I try to stop this madness?(!)

Every time when I start Firefox (FF) I receive a message about opening an application/octet-stream. Asking whether I want to open it or save it. If I don't respond (which is what I do) a few moment later I receive a message about not being able te save a file. If I respond to this with [OK] both messages disapear and I can go on using FF. Screendumps of these messages can be seen here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2395780/ifr.jpg

These messages don't limit FF. Or make it impossible to work with FF. They are just annoying. How can I prevent these messages from still appearing?

Thank you so much for your assistance Kind regards....

I was working with a css file developing a website. Firefox was open for awhile and went to refresh the html page and it would not refresh. tried the clock wise arrow (did not work) forced refresh (alt+ f5) did not work, tried shift+ left mouse (did not work), tried alt +shift+ r (did not work). went as far as to uninstall Firefox and then reinstalled it, (did not work). I am at witts end. It use to work. I have a support ticket at the editor's support site waiting on answer from them incase it is my editor causing the problem. and know waiting on your reply. You will blame my editor and they will blame you and I don't know who to blame. I just know it does not work, I have checked my end, everything works in other browsers. I am having this problem just in Firefox. Do you have any suggestions on a fix for this?

Firefox has worked perfectly well for some time on this machine (Dual core AMD Athlon with XP SP3). This morning at startup Firefox opened on my second (DVI) monitor, not on its usual VGA connected screen. I used the maximise button to shrink the window from full screen and dragged it to the correct monitor and remaximised it. It then was very slow, mouse movements happened in large increments making it difficult to point and click, switching tabs resulted in a slow vertical wipe to reveal content rather than instantaneous switching, loading websites was very slow indeed. Using task manager indicated that one CPU core was running at or near max much of the time, particularly when moving the mouse. I rebooted and also reset Firefox to no avail. However, if I move the Firefox window from the VGA monitor to the DVI one then performance/resource usage is normal. I can open other apps on the VGA monitor (eg MS Word) and they behave normally. It just seems to be Firefox that is having this problem.

Within the last couple days, Firefox has had a lot of problems.

When I open it, the window hangs and freezes after a few seconds, if it opens at all. Other times, trying to open Firefox simply won't open the window, but will leave an extra process running in the background that I have to manually shut down via Task Manager.

I have made a fresh profile. I have restarted Firefox. I previously had hardware acceleration checked, and disabled it; still having the same problem. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox multiple times. I have run a scan of my system with Malwarebytes; nothing detected. It's not even generating a crash log. I have looked through the support forums, found people with problems similar to mine, but no solutions posted for them since sometime last month.

Firefox seems to run normally if do an install of version 21, which opens up the browser window. Everything works fine, until I close the browser and then re-open it.

I have just got a new laptop running Windows 8, I do not use the start screen, I have downloaded Start Windows 8 and only use the desktop. I have downloaded Firefox and I am currently using vesion 20.0.1

I added MyWot and Adblock Plus and Downloader Helper.

Initially I was having a problem with the display of Cnet and the odd other site. I figured this was likely to be an issue with Adblock Plus, I disabled it on that site and it was fine. I then started losing the email functions in Yahoo mail, 'move', 'forward' etc. that run along the top of the inbox, and the drop down menu to log out woudn't show. I've since been getting problems with the display of other websites such as booking.com and now the Facebook log in page. By displaying incorrectly, I mean things appearing in line and in Times New Roman.

I have restarted with add ons disabled that didn't fix it, so I reset Firefox. This had the sites working. I reinstalled MyWot, restaretd, stillworked. Reinstalled Downloader Helper, restarted, still worked. I did not reinstall Adblock. I was using the Transport for London wesbite which was fine until I logged out and then that page appeared in Times New Roman too. The Facebook log in page is also broken again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know my way around a computer to an extent but I'm not that techy. I've done the auto add information below, I don't know what most of it means (Avast plug in has been disabled through all this).

I have not been having these problems on my old XP laptop that I've still been using.

I have no idea if I need to keep all of them, or just one of them, as backup.

Which of the below do i need to keep, and which delete? Thanks.

I have my system set to minimise windows by double-tapping/clicking them on the title bar. It works for most of windows (iTunes being exception). It's a system preference thingy, so it should work across all the board. After the recent update to 21.0, my Firefox is unable to minimise by double-tapping on the title bar anymore. Is there anyway to fix this issue, or will this be solved in the next update?
