What happens is that every time I hibernate my laptop (with Windows 7 Pro, 64bit), when I resume from hibernation, FF is completely unresponsive (hangs) for minutes. Easily around 5 minutes. Eventually a dialog box pops up with the following:

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete."

And the two buttons are: "stop script" or "continue". After I click "stop script" the unresponsiveness finally goes away, and FF starts working normally again.

I think possibly even clicking "continue" also makes it go back to normal, but I'm not sure anymore since I have recently just switched to sleep mode out of frustration in order to not deal with it anymore, and I don't remember exactly if I get the same result from clicking either option.

This is extremely frustrating.

Someone else reported an extremely similar symptom here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/935110?esab=a&as=aaq It might even be the exact same symptom. Maybe that person simply never waited long enough for the dialog box to appear, but otherwise the unusability symptoms are the same.

I try to change the default search engine in the search bar (to Google) by following your instructions, including by deleting all the other available options, but every time I re-open Firefox, all the other search engines have re-appeared and the default engine is Yahoo, not Google.

Hi somehow sweetpacks decided to get on my computer I have tried removing it but am unsuccessful. I have firefox as my home page but when I type in something it goes to sweetpacks. I can't find anywhere on my computer to remove it. Please can anyone help it is so annoying. Brad

Hi, after updating to Java 7 update 10 Java stopped working. Plug in checker indicates Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.100.18 is installed correctly, but Java test page says plugin needed and Java Runtime Environment 1.7 u10 is available. Install fails. Uninstalled Java and tried manual install (including as administrator) but no resolution. All old Java versions have been uninstalled. Thank you for your time.

Didn't even do anything. Home page changed on its own. Tried a fix that was suggested on-line but that did help. Instead now have more "add-ons" and Yahoo has become the home page instead of my desired google although when bring up Mozilla always goes to the Start.Search.us.com first.

i have vista 32-bit & as i type a youtube video that i tried to pause i can hear play a sec. or 2,but won't continuously play.this happens on all my browsers,ie,chrome,firefox,& all youtube videos.i've tried uninstalling & reinstall chrome,firefox & flashplayers,no good.this started after malwarebytes (thank them) unlocked my pc from reveton-fbi-ransomware virus!any solutions out there?Thanx in advance.can't watch videos anywhere damn!

When Firefox is open - I will try to connect to Facebook.com. One of 2 things happen: Either the page will not open and the spinning circle will continue to spin until I close the page or Facebook will open but will not load pictures or any of the page correctly. I have deleted my cookies - which has not helped. I also cannot open Facebook in IE.

I downloaded a program and I made sure the check boxes asking to install addons were disabled. Next thing I know I had a snap do toolbar on my firefox home page. I went to control panel and uninstalled the toolbar. now when I try to use firefox i get the snap do search page come on.

Several versions of Firefox are incorrectly reporting the certificate as being untrusted for the web site https://commportal.telehop.com (A Canadian VOIP and cable company) I have tested this on several different netwokrs and all in Canada, Ontario report "the connections is untrusted."

How can this happen ? I have tested version 13, 17 and the latest as of "Mach-21-2013"

I used the following site to confirm. http://www.networking4all.com/en/support/tools/site+check/ as well as http://www.digicert.com/help/index.htm?host=www.proxify.com&order_id=&x=38&y=14. The latter shows the following result

"SSL Certificate is not trusted

The certificate is not signed by a trusted authority (checking against Mozilla's root store). If you bought the certificate from a trusted authority, you probably just need to install one or more Intermediate certificates. Contact your certificate provider for assistance doing this for your server platform."

How could this store be incorrec for only Firefox and not Safari or Internet explorer?

I cannot log into my gmail or facebook account, because it says: cookies are disabled, enable cookies to continue. I tried changing my settings in Firefox - Options - Settings - Privacy - Use custom settings. I did exactly what I was advised in the Firefox Help online, enabled everything, then clicked OK. Didnt work. Tried it again and I only found that the settings (custom settings - enabled everything) were not even saved. I am not able to save these custom settings any way, it never saves them no matter how many times I try and click ok, I come back to the setting to find that they are not there. So I tried clearing all the cookies and cache in history (also found this online in firefox support site), guess what? DIDNT WORK. I am starting to be a little bit pissed off as I cannot log into my gmail or facebook account for over two weeks now! Any time I need to check e-mails I have to use someones laptop.

Often, when I'm browsing with firefox a pop-up page appears: always from speedanalysis.net. I have never used this service nor do I want this service. I have ad-blocker installed. How do I prevent this annoying pop-up in the future?

While browsing the net, from email to facebook to youtube to forums, I get the same annoying pop up - Goodgame Empire -(http://lp.empire.goodgamestudios.com/?country=us&pid=248&camp=1&gid=12&cid=785514&tid=18668003%A0). A new tab will randomly open every 10-60 seconds, it seems to be triggered by me if I scroll down on a page, or select another tab, or click the address bar etc, but also just randomly as well. So far, while writing this it has opened about 15 new tabs.

I have searched google and haven't found any answers, I'm not a computer guru but I can do basic things. So far, I have deleted my history, cookies etc. Still pops ups. I tried blocking the website, still pops up. I downloaded some add on for firefox and it seemed to fix the problem about a week ago until today it started again, and I can't remember the name of the add-on and I don't know where to find it. I also ran my McAfee antivirus program and Malwarebytes and they found nothing.

I am out of ideas on how to fix this, it is extremely frustrating, please help, and remember I am not a computer genius.

just installed FF 18.0 on Linux (Centos 5.8) where 17.0.1 has been running fine.

I always install in a local (to my login) directory, and have a desktop launcher to start it. I download each .tar.bz2 FF package to a subdir, where I unpack it, overwriting whatever was already in the firefox directory in that location.

doing that, I get the error above. so I renamed the directory and did a fresh extraction into the firefox directory that tar creates when unpacking the archive. SAME PROBLEM.

moving that directory aside and re-extracting the 17.0.1 archive yields a working Firefox.

What can I do to solve this problem?

I wish to be able to perform google searches from my address bar. I used to e able to do this but after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, for speed issues, it no longer works and merely says "sorry we could not find 'search term' ".

I have followed the steps outlined in http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-web-address-bar Keyword.enabled is set to true and keyword.URL is set to https://www.google.com/search?q= but it still doesn't work.

Any help is gratefully accepted.

in firefox 18 my address bar seems to have been hijacked by yahoo ! or yahoo axis ! i prefer google so how do i change back to google ? i tried to go back to firefox 17 but the same thing happened . is it firefox or a virus ? i have a mac and ran antivirus and ccleaner but came up with nothing . very frustrating !!

Previously this same question has been answered and closed, but not resolved and it states over 600 people have the same problem. Firefox will not shut down, and needs to be shut down through task box, surely this is not a real solution.

I have gone through all the processes stated https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding#w_firefox-hangs-when-you-quit-it but they don't seem to work. I have Firefox 17.0.1 with windows 7. This proves a huge security issue on a shared computer when the history is set to be cleared each time the browser is closed - when it fact nothing is being cleared.

Mozilla can you actually please provide a reason why this is happening and fix it?

Problem started when I had a few windows open and I closed them and tried to open firefox in quick succession.

When I used to close firefox, it used to save my 800 tabs automatically, no message popped up when I closed, and when I opened firefox up again, all my tabs were there.

Now, when I close firefox, it warns me that I am closing 800 tabs. It gives me no option to save. When I open firefox back up, it doesn't let me "restore previous session," it is greyed out. However, I can go "recently closed windows" and use that to restore my session. Restarting firefox is also really slow now (I am not sure if it is closing or opening, but I suspect it is closing).

I have "show my windows and tabs from the last time" selected in options. I am not having it clear history on close. I set showQuitWarning, all options with "warnOn..." in them to true (only changed warnOnRestart), and privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions to false.

I am not shutting down my computer until this is solved. These 800 tabs are important (will be about 500 after I finish culling, was 1365 yesterday).

I get local news and weather on my Yahoo homepage for Cleveland, OH. I'm not in Cleveland. How do I change my current location to get news and weather for my real location? (Default is already set for my real location). When I try to add a city, I get an error message.
