whenever i try to watch DivX movies through a streaming website, the extension to the movies are .avi files, only these streams cause my firefox to crash. if i would just let the firefox load itself out of the problem, which i have, it never does until i CTRL ALT DELETE it in the end task manager.

streaming worked fine for .avi files before the new firefox update, so will this error be fixed, or is it something else? and if so how do i fix the problem so i can continue to view these movies online?

In what seems like a relentless update/upgrade competition with the "other" browsers, Firefox 11 is NOW not playing nice with Shockwave Flash, or is it vice-versa. This didn't start happening until I "upgraded" to Firefox 11.0

YES, I've updated ALL the plugins (Who invented this plug-in hassle, anyway?), as is ABSOLUTELY required whenever Firefox goes through one of its myriad of updates/upgrades. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Flash, and my WinXP Pro is up-to-date. I haven't experienced this torrential headache with IE 8.0, OR before F-11.

Is there a Firefox 11.0.0.1.2.3.4 patch in-the-works, or do I have to consider one of the "others"? HELP ME!

So for the past 5 days, firefox will not stop crashing. Whether I'm on YouTube, Last FM, or just checking my email on Yahoo, Firefox crashes abruptly. I get a little box that pops-up, stating "Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report." When I to send an error report or check the box that says "Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it," I get the response "That was a problem submitting your report." I've done everything suggested, from trouble shooting, to disabling all my plug-ins & extensions, uninstalling & reinstalling, running Firefox through Safe Mode, et cetera, yet despite all this, the crashes persist. I don't want to return to Safari, Google Chrome, or IE, yet I feel as though I have no choice with this obdurate and, frankly, obnoxiously annoying crashes. It's incredibly ironic that Firefox just launched an update which reduces crashes, yet now, more than ever, crashes are most prevalent.

So, for a few days now, Firefox has been extremely touchy. It would crash at random times, but now, it crashes whenever I try to type something. It has gotten progressively worse. Also, I cannot play videos, as "Adobe Plugin has crashed". This isn't just once or twice. This is every video on every site. Please help!

If it's of any correlation, I was getting bluescreens and such earlier.

After upgrading to 3.6.4 the browser will not open. The process starts, but a window never appears.

Firefox will not open in Safe Mode. Profile Manager will not open.

Have performed a complete uninstall/reinstall, removing both the program files\mozilla folder and the mozilla folder in %appdata% before reinstalling.

Uninstalled all security software (MS Essentials, Outpost) and attempted reinstalling with no security software installed at all.

Have installed other builds, including Minefield and Namoroka. No 32 bit builds 3.6.4 or later will open on my system. The problem does not exist with 64 bit builds.

I have reverted to 3.6.3 but do not want to be stuck on this version forever.

Recently FireFox has begun crashing repeatedly and at unexpected times. Simply presenting me with a dialogue box saying 'FireFox has stopped working'. Vista 'tries to find a solution' but to no end.

The crashes seem to occur exclusively when new websites are opened, or when I trigger some means of new data transfer. For example, I can load a website successfully and leave it up for hours without crashing, however if I were to click a link from that page it would most likely crash.

No particular websites appear to cause the problem. Even clicking simply links from Google can cause it. Yet the same link a few moments later on a second try can work fine.

Finally, it seems that FireFox is causing other applications - that use it - to crash also. For example if I click a link that opens Windows Media Player, some times WMP will 'stop working' in the same way. If I download files and then attempt to open file location via FF's download box, Windows Explorer will 'stop working'.

I do not have any crash reports available, but help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve stayed away from the newer Firefoxes, as my experience with 3.5 was poor, with its frequent crashes. However, I eventually went to 3.6.10 and had no problems.

Since 3.6.11, Firefox has crashed daily. Then, later that week, twice daily. Then, the following week, thrice daily. When 3.6.12 came out, I note that it crashes even more often, up to four times per hour.

This happens on both Windows XP and Windows Vista (I am entering this report and crash ID from the latter computer).

Firefox 6.0 (release) has a memory leak.

Tested with 5 windows and 43 pages loaded and left overnight, it crashed after several hours. Able to fully repro this every time.

I left it for 10 mins after all pages loaded. I opened Task Manager and I can see the Memory (Private Working Set) increasing every few seconds.

I'm a simple soul. I had firefox 4.something on Vista - marvellous. Firefox 5 comes along and it doesn't say beta, so i naively assumed it would work cos the bugs had been ironed out. Very funny. And the funniest thing of all is that I'm told to report the faults to mozilla so they can fix them - over and over again - and yet they never get fixed! So what's the point in reporting them? What's the point in upgrading to firefox 5 if firefox 5 is full of bugs. I don't get it - for us non-technical mortals it just trashes mozilla's reputation.

Gave in to the "nag" screen earlier this evening and "upgraded" to Firefox 14.0.1 from 13.0.1

And since then I've had multiple "not responding" problems. Just hangs, repeatedly. Whether I'm doing anything or not. On a variety of websites - planet-f1.com, bbc.co.uk, youtube (seems worst on youtube), facebook... pretty much anything I do. It's even hung on this page once. All I get is the "circle of doom", the "not responding" top of screen, and eventually the "whitewash of death" look.

I've disabled all my add-ons (not that I had many, mainly just adblock and flash) but no avail. Cleared cache and cookies.

Seriously tempted to go back to 13! Any other ideas?

At the end of my rope with Firefox now. I've tried using Chrome, but it's buggy as hell with some of my sites and logmein doesn't work well on it (I telecommute a lot). IE is pants as well, because... well, it's IE (no extensions, no bookmarks toolbar etc etc)

So - after much experimentation, and using Chrome/Firefox about 50/50 I've ditched Chrome altogether. However, I'm frustrated as all hell that Mozilla appear to be completely ignoring the obvious memory issues that have been plaguing FF for aeons now. 3.6 is unusable after about six hours - memory use constantly rises to around 380Mb, then maxes out one of my cores and the browser hangs completely. That's every signle version of 3.6 I've tried.

3.5.x is a little better - I generally get around 18-20 hours' use out of it before the browser hangs and I have to restart it. I need to leave multiple windows open for various monitoring systems - it's a major, major pain in the arse to have to restart it (especially since it takes about 30 seconds to close it down then kill the (inevitable) hung process in task manager then start everything up again.

I have tried leaving FF open overnight with anywhere from between one to five tabs/windows open - but every single time I check after they've been open about a day, sure as eggs is eggs FF has crashed. I've done all the usual crap (I wasted days if not weeks on it before I got so pisse doff I went over to Chrome) like disabling all add-ons, running FF in safe mode, checking all my plugins are up to date etc etc etc - none of this had any effect.

It's insane - I have the fastest PC I've ever used at home (quad core running at 2.6Gh, 12Gb RAM, Win 7 x64) yet I'm still using a browser that feels and performs like it was written in the stone age.

Since I see dozens of other threads around similar to this - often with boilerplate responses from Mozilla volunteers condescendingly telling people to disable their antivirus client or start stopping processes one-by-one to try and find something else to blame - I don't expect there will be any official assistance or advice, but has anyone else figured out a way to get FF to stay well-behaved after being open for an extended period of time?
