I setup the sync login on 1 laptop first, then selected "pair a device" and it displayed the 3 numbers. On the other laptop I chose set up sunc from the tools menu, then "I already have an account" and it displayed the pair a device screen with the numbers filled in - ie it thought it was the "master". Can't get past this.

I try to set up Firefox Sync but as I fill in my e-mail address on the first line i first get the message "invalide e-mail account" (or similar) but then when I continue to complete it with www@yyy.com it just says "unknown error". I have tried several different e-mail addresses on two different computers but the same annoying unknown error message keeps coming up. What am I supposed to do about that?

Please can someone give me some advice or guidance to help me with this annoying problem.

Like i mentioned i saved my Recovery Key (RK) because i think this is an excellent tool however when i tried to use it for the first time on my brand new computer, i was promptly told - Wrong Recovery Key. So i clicked on the "I have lost my other device" to get a new/another? RK, I put this key in the appropriate box only to be told the same thing again? wrong RK. What am i doing wrong, i cant make heads or tails of it.

Any suggestions would be grateful...

I just did a fresh install of Linux Mint Cinnamon 14 which comes with Firefox 17.0.1. When I try to set up Sync, I can't get past the "Pair a Device" screen, even though the other device confirms the code is correct. If I click "I don't have the device with me", I'm able to enter my account, password, and recovery key, but when I click the "next" button, nothing happens.

Bookmarks vanished on multiple computers.

Error message on all platforms: Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error.

Android device seems unaffected. Attempts to re-sync good data from android device have no effect. I filed a bug report but after over 15 days it was marked as a duplicate and rolled into another bug report. The solutions there are way (WAY) beyond my technical level of expertise, and look to be for the unix OS. Something about a corrupt root.

I've been very reluctant to clear my sync data, because the impression I get is that I'll lose all my bookmarks. The entire reason I started using Sync was to back them up!

I want to use firefox sync but I am afraid to begin until I know which version of firefox is considered to be the source and which firefox will be overwritten. Right now I want to overwrite the version of firefox on my portable with the version on my PC. At a later time I will probably want to reverse the process.

Will the system warn me which way the data is being copied, or allow me to specify?

Firefox 17.0.1 I find no ability to remove a sync account. System requires that I "setup a sync account", a sync account using my email address already exists but I cannot get to it to sync a previously synced iPhone via "Bookmarks". I therefore wish to remove the existing "sync account" and start over.

My computer had to be reformatted. Before I reformatted it, I set up a sync account. I have a Firefox Sync Key with my old settings and I also copied my firefox profile to a USB. How can I either sync up my new firefox or replace the profile?

Hi. I installed Firefox Sync on a computer that I later reinstalled the operating system on and I do not have a computer or device to sync to. I would like to recover my sync data but do not want to generate a new recovery key and delete this data. I still have my password. What can I do?

The first thing that is not clear is does the SyncOption refer to what happens just at the point the system is setup to use Sync, is it how the device will interact with Sync over time, or both. For example, on Oct 1 the Sync data gets created from my desktop with bookmarks A, B, and C. On Oct 2, I delete from my laptop bookmark A and add bookmark D. Then I add my laptop to be a Synced system with the merge option. What bookmarks are in the Sync data and in the laptop's data? If I later delete bookmark B from my laptop, what happens to the Synced data? (To me, "merge" means merging two sets of data causes nothing to get deleted, so if my laptop deletes B leaving it with bookmarks C and D, and the Sync data has bookmarks A, B, and C, the merged data on both systems is A, B, C, and D. "Merge" as Sync uses it is never precisley defined and I suspect you mean it in a different sense of the word.)

What does "Replace all other devices with this computer's data". Come on people, this is computer science and this does not make sense. How can you use wording like this. A "device" cannot be replaced with "data". Did you mean the data in the devices is replaced with this computer's data? And if that is what you mean, what if those devices are set to "Merge" their data with Sync.

I am rather shocked at how unprecisely Firefox defines these three actions. It is inexcusable.

I decided to install a clean version of Windows 8 as a replacement for Win7. So when I looked at what i should save I decided to make a FireFox sync account to retrieve my data when FireFox was installed on my Notebook again.

So today I installed FireFox again but I can't seem to log in, asking about codes a other device made... Why can't I just log in with my username and password? I still have the "Windows.old" file, can I do something with that since I suppose I lost all my old data because of that weird codes.

Three or four days ago I set up a Sync account to export my bookmarks, etc,. from my old PC. Now using my new machine I attempted to import that data without success. I have not reset my Sync account so the data, I think, should be somewhere.

Basically what the title says, is there a "other devices" tab I'm missing somewhere? I've used Google to no avail, and I can easily sync tabs from my desktop to my Android, but there doesn't seem a way to do the reverse.

I click on the Firefox tab, then "options" and THERE IS NO "Manage Account" and, therefore, NO RECOVERY KEY. Help me, please! Both my computers are Windows: one Win7, one Win8. I've spent hours and hours -- in multiple sessions over a period of months -- trying to solve this.

The question pretty much sums it up. Selling one laptop so I need to remove Firefox that has my personal data but I am wondering if it is going to affect the other laptop [synched] which I will be keeping.
