Running firefox 3.6.24 under Fedora core 14 64 bit. Cannot load certain pages from schoolfusion website with firefox or google chrome. I get server not found error. On the same machine a XP virtual with IE or chrome can access the website.I've checked wireshark output and the DNS query is there along with a good response to the query i.e. the dns returns the correct ip address. So I don't understand why the server error. On the same web site a link that does work starts with 2 identical DNS queries both get identical responses. It must be some network setting under linux only? I have a direct internet connect no proxy. I've tried all of the suggestions under server error already.

I have been using Firefox for several years with no problems. I have had my current laptop for 1 and a half years and have had no problems until about 2 months ago. Now Firefox crashes after only a few seconds several times (maybe 15-20 times) and then the interval between crashes tends to increase. I googled for help, and nothing has worked. I am still using Firefox 3.6.24 because when I upgrade to the latest version Firefox freezes while it is loading and it locks up my PC. At least with Firefox 3.6.24, I can get around to using it, although it is very frustrating wiwth all the crashes.

While I have your attention, is there any way I can get Firefox to stop asking me if I want to update my version. I am getting sick and tired of having to say 'NO' (for the reasons above).

Firefox notifies me that I'm not running the latest version (I have 3.6.24 GTB7.1) and to download the version compatible with my older system (Mac Tiger 10.4.11). I click on that link and can find nothing that states what systems the version(s) there are compatible with. I have in the past downloaded and installed an incompatible version, a situation to avoid for obvious reasons.

When using Firefox 8, the home page loading time takes several minutes - I have reverted to version 3.6 because the load time of ver. 8 is unbearably slow.
I don't have this problem with vers 3.6. I am running Vista on a quad 4 processor with 3.5mb ram and norton anti virus.
Page info says "ISO-8859-1" but Firfox displays the page in UTF-8
Only after manually changing the character encoding to ISO-8859-1 german Umlaute are correctly displayed.
I use the same urls in tabs/windows day in day out, but am not ure whether this version will retore all the tabs on restarting the computer each morning?

Is there any way to get a webpage to refresh periodically, say, every five to ten minutes?

I have half-speed dial-up. When I restart Firefox it attempts to connect to each web page from my previous session to refresh the pages. This chokes my connection. How can I stop this auto refresh action? Thanks.

I can start Firefox with the modem disconnected to prevent this, but it can take 3 to 5 minutes for Firefox to open this way. (I see the modem blink as Firefox tries to connect during this time.) If my 56.6 modem is connected, it would take >60 minutes. (28.8 is the highest speed available in rural areas.)

I already set this "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" still this not work..

Tried with add-ons disabled..... NO DIFFERENT ! (safe mode)
I can download images but not programs Like FF8, Safari, Adobe Reader etc.. (and the strange series of letters and numbers are always different !)
My server is fine AND I can do downloads with IE !!! without any problems at all.

It does not show up in ALL PROGRAMS from START..... But does appear in ADD/REMOVE PROGS via Control Panel....also in MY COMPUTER>Program files !! Both versions work...but my desktop short cut links to FF 3.6.24....and that is what I use all the time. (the Beta version must have been there for some time)..... So this gave me the idea of maybe keeping my current version and also having a separate program FF8.... Until I get used to FF8...(see question https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/897193#answer-277745)
Maybe... 1. Install FF8 to a different location folder..say...Mozilla/Firefoxnew8
2. Rename the existing FF version and create new desktop short cut.
But the only problem I can see in these options is that when FF installs a new update automatically, on start up...... depending on which version I am using at the time...... I presume it will look for folder Mozilla/Firefox..... THEN WHAT WILL HAPPEN ??
