Netflix on demand video was playing properly in Firefox 4 beta 6 but no longer works in the later betas. When attempting to play a movie I get a message which says "Thanks for Installing once installation is complete, please restart your browser to watch this movie". I can still watch in Chrome and in Opera (masked as Firefox). Silverlight is up to date and I can see it in the Firefox plugins menu. Does anyone know why or how to fix this? Any answers would be fun thanks!

Since I have installed the new version of Firefox (version 8.0), every single file I download is downloaded as "attachment.ashx" and won't open. I have to change the name as well as the file type in order to open the document.

This happens regardless of if I'm downloading from email, from a website, etc.. All of the files I have downloaded also have already been named and had file types appended, but Firefox is changing them every single time. I have never had this problem before using the same sites and downloads.

Signed up for Firefox 4 on my desktop @ work but my web based time sheet provider won't allow me access with a "beta" browser, so I need to revert back to Firefox 3 (most current non beta version).

I've been using Firefox for many months to access my work email using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Clicking on an attachment always resulted in the file being downloaded intact (mostly pdfs and Word docs). Suddenly yesterday all file types result in the download of "attachment.ashx". I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff and then my computer without effect. I then deleted and reinstalled Ff -- no change. Now in the applications window pdfs and docs aren't listed, but I can't get them in there anyway because they don't download as such. I am using Ff 8.0 on MacOS 10.6.8.

I woke one morning to find a new version of firefox on my mac. Since then I have not been able to get Netflix to work since it asks me to restart in 32bit mode. Prior to the update the yellow bar restarted Netflix with no issues now it just cycles back with no change.

I recently installed an Update and received a message that my PDF Plug In for Firefox would be disabled, but that when the Update had been installed the Plug in would be enabled. This has not happened. I am running Firefox 5 on Mac OSX (10.6)

I hope someone can help me. This is a long one.

I've had a number of problems with Firefox since installing it several weeks ago. It worked fine for a while, but one day upon trying to open Firefox I received this message: Alert. Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the program and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."

The only thing it really affected was that I couldn't access Facebook, but I tried to trash Firefox so I could reinstall. When I attempted to empty the trash, I received the following message: "The operation cannot be completed because the item "libsmime3.dylib" is in use."

I restarted my Mac and found my trash was empty and Firefox wasn't on my machine anymore. Subsequent attempts to install Firefox, however, just cycle through the same problem. Now when I try to open Firefox after installing, I get the message "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."

I've searched for possible cures and as far as I can tell I have to delete the Firefox profile. I've tried to find it, downloaded Onyx to look for invisible files, but no dice. I'm getting very frustrated but I specifically need to use Firefox for a program in which I will be participating in a couple weeks. Unfortunately my software won't work with Safari. I have been troubleshooting this myself but I can't make any progress with the problem.

I volunteered for the Beta program a while ago. Now I want to leave the Beta program, because Firefox asks me to update to the Beta several times per week. I need to use this browser for work, and the frequent nagging messages are annoying.

However, the instructions to change Release Channels are wrong. Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. The Release Notes for 6.0Beta say:

If you do not wish to participate in the beta program, you can switch to the release channel.

2. I visit http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-switch-update-channels. The instructions on this page say:

"On the menu bar, click the Firefox menu and select About Firefox to open the About Firefox window. In the About Firefox window, click the Change link. Click the drop-down menu to select the Release, Beta or Aurora channel.

However, there is no "Change" link.

I cannot proceed with this this method.

Please update the links on your website to point to updated information.

When I go to a web site, the section of the navigation tool bar that displays the URL of the page no longer shows the http://www URL address as it always did in the past. The size of that part has shrunk. The area where you type in URL for search engine has expanded. I have no problems with the navigation bar, history, bookmarks, tabs, etc. Only problem is the URL does not display the page. Even this page has no URL shown on the navigation bar. All it has is the logo for mozilla and when I put the cursor over it, it says "Web site does not supply identity information." The same thing shows for every site I go to. Yes, I can bookmark the page with no problems and can use bookmarks to return to the page. But no URL is actually displayed like it always did in the past. Oh, I have an IMac and use a razor keyboard.

Firefox 4 will not run a Java app on my brokers website. It tells me I have a missing plugin and gives the option to download plugin. I try that then it says no suitable plugins were found and suggests I manual install java applet v. 1.4.1. This java version was last used in mac OS 10.4. I use OS 10.6. I note that Firefox 3.6 had this version embedded which allowed it to use the newer versions of Apple Java applets whereas Firefox 4 does not.

I went through the features and add-ons available with recent (approx. 1 month ago) UPDATE of Firefox. One thing I chose was a gimmick that adds color and graphics to (I believe) the SHELL of all pages. I don't really like it: find it too hard to read my tool bar and other info at top. I want to REMOVE THIS and have STANDARD SHELL. I can find NOTHING within my preferences that will lead me to the (NO idea what it is called) add-on involved. I want to know HOW TO FIND IT and HOW to REMOVE IT. Thanks!!

I accidently hid the awesome browser bar which contains the go to home page button, go forward and back a page arrows and the web address of each site. How can I recover it and make it visible again

This is on a Mac I used the "Plugin check" to make sure all the plug-ins were up to date. It said the Java plugin needs to be updated. That takes me to the Java page, which says that Apple supplies its own version of Java and to use Apple Update. Apple update says the system is up to date.

The plugin checker should report an error only if the version of Java can be updated. It cannot be on a mac.

Hi. I recently upgraded my Firefox on my Mac and I can no longer add or forward attachments on my hotmail email account. When I compose a new email or hit reply, the Attachment button/bar is visible but it does not respond when the mouse rolls over it. When I try to forward an email with an attachment, the forwarding email appears but the attachment is not present. I can, however, open attachments that are sent to me.

I was able to attach emails before without trouble, but have not been able to do so since upgrading my Firefox browser. I followed some older instructions which said to clear recent cookies and cache, but that didn't solve the problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Problems: - "stop private browsing" and "clear history" under tools are gray and cannot be checked - often, not always, I get a message that I cannot surf the web because I am offline; but work offline has not been checked and I have never worked offline - on several websites, such as ESPN and others, the print on one line overlaps the print on the next line and the print on the lower line cannot be read

After I click View/Full Screen on the Firefox menu bar, I lose the main FF Menu bar. When I hit the esc key, the screen remains locked in full screen view mode. Then I have to reboot my computer to get back to the default FF menu and display mode.

Why doesn't the esc key work the way it works when I'm viewing videos in full screen mode?
