So, when I first got Firefox, I was able to update to the latest version by clicking on "Firefox" scroll down on the top left corner of the screen, then clicking on "Help", and then clicking on "About Firefox".
Ever since update 14.0 something, my steps of updating Firefox mentioned above wouldn't work anymore. For example, after I click on "About Firefox" to update, the popped up window says:
Restart to Update (clickable) You are currently on the release update channel.
So, I click on restart to update, but it did NOT update nor did anything. Therefore, I have to manually keep downloading the new version by going to the Mozilla Firefox website, and then download the client, etc which is annoying.
Also, once I update my Mozilla Firefox by manually downloading from the website again, it does NOT fix the update feature mentioned earlier.
So, my question is: Does anybody know why this update feature mentioned above does not work for me anymore?
Thanks. I look forward to your replies.

Was using Firefox 14 with Flash v.11disabled all Real Player plug-ins, disabled protected mode for Flash and Youtube was working correctly. Then Firefox upgraded me to 16.0.2, and Youtube doesn't work. When I click on a Youtube video, it doesn't give me any error message, just a blank screen.
Downgraded to Flash v.10, still doesn't work. But Youtube works OK with IE and Chrome.

This also happened with the 11.4.402 version prior to today's update.

This has been happening for approximately two weeks and I keep awaiting for an update of Firefox assuming you know of the problem. I run AVG Free anti-malware , Zone Alarm firewall and Trusteer Rapport.

Warning: If you upgrade to Firefox 17 and use Google's old search -

the autocomplete (drop-down box of you personal search terms) is disabled and per Google is not a Google issue
Again if you use https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en
your typed search history contained in the drop-down box is eliminated with Firefox 17, and once again Google has verified that it is not a Google issue.
Hopefully Firefox fixes this issue because tens of millions of people who use Google's old Search Engine -
https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en
use it because it retains your typed search history while eliminating google's suggestions, making searches fast and precise and effective and efficient without google's clutter of suggestions, yet Firefox 17 disables it altogether

I just upgraded Firefox on 10/20/2012 on two different Windows OS: Vista (service pack ??) and Windows XP service pack 5.1. I also write TiddlyWiki's. However, when clicking "save changes", I now get this note:
"It's not possible to save changes. Possible reasons include: - your browser doesn't support saving (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera all work if properly configured) - the pathname to your TiddlyWiki file contains illegal characters - the TiddlyWiki HTML file has been moved or renamed"
I didn't have to do anything to configure the earlier version of Firefox. What do I have to do now ... or is there a bug in 16.1? Thanks for your help.

When on a youtube video, I can move the mouse around the buttons and it will take about 3 seconds for the mouse to travel between the buttons. The same happens on the BBC News website.
All other flash videos seem to function correctly.
Watching youtube/BBC news in IE works fine. Currently, FF is unusable for these websites.
This also happens in safe mode.

I've almost completely removed search.babylon, but cannot get the last bits of it to leave. Search.babylon remains the default search engine of the about:home page for firefox, and no mater how many times I reset the babylon entries in about:config, they just go back babylon afterwards.
I know that there are a lot of people having problems with Babylon, and lots of answers. I've tried every suggestion I could find, without success.
The things I've tried:
1. Babylon toolbar was never in my firefox extensions, so there's nothing to remove there. 2. I've uninstalled Babylon via the windows control panel. 3. I searched the entire C drive for any file containing the word babylon and deleted both the files and the containing folders. 4. I've removed search.babylon from my "manage search engines" list. 5. I've reset my home page. 6. I've reset every result containing "babylon" in about:config about a dozen times. 7. In the web developer scratchpad I executed "javascript:{localStorage["search-engine"]="{\"name\":\"Google\",\"searchUrl\":\"http://www.google.com/search?q=_searchTerms_&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a\"}";void(0);}" 8. Thoughout this process I've restarted firefox countless times.
Nevertheless, whenever I open a new tab or page, and try and use the search on about:home (the default mozilla home page, with the firefox logo in the center and "Downloads, bookmarks, history, addons, sync, settings" at the bottom), I'm taken to search.babylon.com
