I am doing coursework in Udacity. The site uses youtube for it's video playback. The videos are in the html5 format. I know this because I right click on them and get a message about html5 and not flash. Sometimes when I try to watch a video in firefox, I see the video loading on the progress bar, but it will not play. If I then open chromium, and visit the you tube site and start playing a random video, all of a sudden the video will play in firefox. I'm not sure what's going on here or who is responsible, but in my opinion this is a fairly serious issue. It is the sort of thing that ppl will switch browsers for....

I'm running Firefox 18.0.1 in Mac 10.8.2, but I've had this problem in other versions too. I need FF to run in 32-bit mode, because I often use Google Voice, which requires that. I've already gone to the information window for the application and checked the box that says "Open in 32-bit mode." Seems like that should solve the problem. But it doesn't. Every time I open FF and log in to Gmail, I get a message saying it uses plug-ins that can only run in 32-bit mode, and asking if I want to restart in 32-bit mode. If I just want to check my email it's fine, but if I want to use Google Voice I have to restart the browser. That's annoying, given that there already is a setting for starting in 32-bit mode, and that I've already selected it. Is that setting non-functional, or is there some way to make it actually work?

When Access Protection is enabled under the category "Common Standard Protection", Rule: Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp Directory is enabled. the updates fail.
This rule provides some protection against possible malware execution. However when this rule is enabled FireFox updates fail. We have set exclusions for "updater.exe" but the problem seems to be when FF restarts and the update fails. Is there anyway of finding out what is happening at that point?? as in what FF is doing? The old FF closes and it seems to spawn a fresh "firefox.exe". But the OLD version is still current.
I would like to know if this update process can be identified and with the possibility of excluding what is being blocked so keep the extra security that this rule gives.
When the rule is disabled, FF updates without issue.

I belong to a membership site that is coaching me on e-mail marketing. I want to cut and paste different bits of information and ad links etc. to emails that I am sending out through the site. For some reason, Firefox will not allow me to cut and paste when I am in this particular site?? I can cut and paste in Microsoft Word and other programs with no problem. But when I'm on this particular site it's no deal. This is very frustrating. What can I do to resolve the problem.

Suppose there is form in a web page and it submits data in HTTP POST method. After submitting the form, if I reload the page [either by the refresh button or back button; whichever applicable], firefox asks permission to resend the form data by saying "To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action...". Now if the user clicks on the resend, firefox resubmits the form data.
So where does firefox store this from data for such future resending/resubmission? Is it possible to retrieve/manipulate those stored form data?

Desktop has dual boot with Windows 7 (32 bit) and Ubuntu Linux 11.10 (64 bit) with electronic HD ~120 GB. The partitions allow sharing so that Linux can access Windows disk space by using /host/ubuntu... Firefox also used on Windows 7 (this always works). With Ubuntu on boot, I can ping my ISP server ok. On some days attempting to use Firefox (usual or safe-mode) to connect to (any) site will result in a very short connect (maybe one second) followed by a disconnect, and then I can't ping or connect anything until reboot (powercycling the DSL modem does not help). Also, dmesg does not show any error when the connection problem occurs. However, there is a message "no IPv6 router present" and looking up ipv6tables using man help ... suggests there are many flags, settings, in the linux kernel that could be reset when Firefox tries to connect. Perhaps you can suggest which logs might indicate when the trigger gets set by the Firefox (or the kernel). I have tried to resolve the problem by wiping extensions, plugins, hdw accel, etc. I have no idea what I have done (previously) to restore operability...need ability to trace.

Hello all,
There *are* some articles here that will help solve a little bit of this, but I need a more comprehensive approach. Can someone here tell me what the purpose of .mkdir.done files are?? I have Vista 64-bit and I don't see any profile dirs or profile files in the FF dirs. I do however have a "sessionstore" subdir but there is nothing in it. Can I get a little bit of an explanation of how this whole process works? What I'm looking at here is storing session data in an external program in Windows. e.g. - open what I want, when I want it. see, that way I can specify what I want just by manipulating data (encrypted or otherwise) if I know that there is a static process that's always involved with opening previous session tabs.
thanks!
