I today had the problem that after trying to upgrade Java 7 U10 to Java 7 U11, that the Java Platform (TM) completely disappears from the Add-ons manager. I was also not able to use any websites anymore the require the Java add-on.

Tried everything ... tried to install the Java 7 U11 update three times, completely uninstalled all java versions and installed them again, also re-installed Firefox 18, but nothing solved the problem. It also had nothing to do that mozilla disabled the java these days because of a security risk, or because of things like NoScript that I run. It´s simply not been possible anymore to get the Java plugin running in Firefox. Also deleting the plugin.reg and rebuilding it doesnt help at all.

I have seen that there have been two threads in the forum before:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/924704 with 339 people having this problem, but the thread was closed 3 months ago with no solution

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/861922 with 203 people having this problem, but the thread was closed 11 months ago, also with no solution

It´s still the same problem, but also an extensive search on google did not show any solution to this problem. So, this is still an open problem, and unfortunately the two previous forum posts have been closed.

However, I found out the solution to the problem, so i post it here so it may help other people, too:

The JavaPlugin is not registered in the registry. And even uninstalling and installing Java will not add it to the registry again.

Solution:

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MozillaPlugins, a new branch with the name @java.com/JavaPlugin,version=10.11.2 needs to be created,

with the following 7 keys:

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

Description REG_SZ Oracle® Next Generation Java™ Plug-In

GeckoVersion REG_SZ 1.9

Path REG_SZ C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\plugin2\npjp2.dll

ProductName REG_SZ Oracle® Java™ Plug-In

Vendor REG_SZ Oracle Corp.

Version REG_SZ 1.7.0_11

The entries are going to be different for each java version (this one is for Java 7 U11) and for your personal install path, but what you can do is to copy the registry keys from another machine that runs the same java version that you want to use (for example from your notebook or from a virtual machine) by exporting them from that machine, and importing them to the machine that has the problem.

It fixed the problem on my machine, java plug-in runs fine again.

I hope this is going to help some hundred people having the same problem, so I am glad to publish it in the forum. Not all users will be able to find a solution to this problem. It would be great if an admin could add a link to this post under the two previous posts that were closed, where no solutions has been posted, so people going there via google can find the solution in this thread.

I am absolutely sick and tired of hearing excuses about why FF is not to be blamed when it chews 100% CPU with the Adobe Flash plugin. I have done all the dancing around I am willing to endure. I have even downgraded to FF18 and FF19. No friggin setting works. Nothing. IT IS IN THE CODE!! FIX IT!!! It is simply NOT acceptable that ANY other browser in the known universe works OK with Flash BUT FF. It is time that devs acknowledge this and do something about it instead of scratching their butts! PLEASE do not get me more links to troubleshooting pages, either from Windows, Adobe or FF. I'll repeat: IT IS IN THE FRIGGIN CODE. FIX IT!!!

When i search for something on Google Maps, it will zoom to the proper location. However, the orange location arrow does not appear. There is a moment where i can see a broken image icon, but it disappears very quickly. This occurs when i search for businesses as well. Usually you see listings with A, B, C, etc. listed. These icons do not appear.

We are not developing our site in corePHP. We have also enabled SSL on our site.

When one visits our Website and goes to the Page Info > Media Files; It discloses the source and hence increased chances of hacking attacks on the site. We are a little reluctant about this as well.

Kindly guide us further with appropriate suggestions or solution.

I implemented Firefox 15 with Java 1.6.0.35-b10 to be used with a particular Vendor's website. The site has no internet except for accessing this vendor's website. Several weeks ago Firefox 15 updated itself to Firefox 18 and blocklisted Java 6. I was able to unblock it, but now each time the users log into the vendor's website, Firefox prompts the user to activate Java 6. My users are nagging me to turn this activate screen off but i cannot figure out how to permanently activate Java 6 on each of these machines. The vendor is not willing to upgrade to Java 7. I have tested Java 7 with the vendor's site and of course it doesn't load. Consequently, I cannot get this machine to roll back to Java 6. Once they activate Java 6 they can use the website. I could switch back to IE8 and use Java 6 with no problem, except that IE8 has a flaw in it. I have read that I cannot install IE9 on Windows XP pro, so I am stuck with Firefox. Windows XP Pro SP3, Firefox 18, and Java 6.

It freezes in 3 ways: 1) is when i just opened it and it freezes immediately 2) when i click on it, or start typing some address into the bar 3) when i press enter after I've typed the URL in the address bar. my Firefox doesn't have any add-ons, or anything else. i already re-installed it 2 times, cleared cache, history, reset all settings. still crashes

I often use the shortcut Alt FWF to create new directories on Windows.

When FF 15 is set as default it alters the File New menu from Windows Explorer.

It inserts a "Firefox HTML document" item.

This item seems to sabotage the above key combination. It intercepts the last F.

In addition I object to the naming which is plain wrong, for me.

I have deleted the registry key that inserts this thing. Unfortunately it re-appears.

I want to stop this behaviour.

How do I kill this. (Other than by making another browser the default.)

When I have more than one Firefox window (I haven't tried this with only one) the tab at the left disappears. I can get to it by CTRL-TAB but it's not shown on the tab bar. Also the [+] button to open a new tab is at the left in one window, at the right in another, and part way along in another.

This is a known bug because it's described in Q 920279, but that thread is closed.
