Recently parts of the text but not all the text on a webpage has started to blur or distort. Sometimes this distortion moves to the right. If i hover my mouse over the distortion or scroll the page it disappears. This is especially annoying on Facebook ect. I have not noticed this problem in IE or Chome but i havn't used either for prolonged periods to be honest. It's hard to test what causes it because the problem is intermittent, Facebook is affected the worst but have had this problem on other websites including this form and even in the Addon menu.

I have tried, running in safe mode, disabling plugins and clearing the cache none of which have solved the problem.

here's a screenshot of the distortion: http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/2128/facebookblur.png

Before I changed internet service providers, I could type my search queries into the url bar and receive search results from Google. After I switched ISPs, my queries typed into the url bar are put into my new ISP's horrible search engine. How do I change it back?

I've already tried going to about:config and changing the value of the keyword.URL preference to "http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=" but that didn't fix my problem.

New information since creation of the post:

My ISP is Optimum. I have opted out of DNS Assistance and still have seen no change.

When my search term is two words or more, I am directed to Google search results. If my search term is only one word, however, I am still directed to Optimum's search results.

When I watch a video with Mozilla Firefox on sites like YouTube, Google Video or Bing Video in full screen the taskbar shows at the bottom of my screen and doesn't disappear like it does in Internet Explorer. How do I watch videos in full screen without the taskbar showing? It's not a website problem, it's not a Windows problem, it only does this on Mozilla Firefox's browser. All three websites play perfect full screen video on the Internet Explorer browser with no taskbar showing at the bottom..

While trying to track down which Add-On is hammering my CPU, I found another odd behaviour while trying to disable plug-ins one-by-one: With certain plug-ins (specifically Flash, Foxit Reader, and Silverlight), the next time I restart Firefox, they are enabled again. After disabling them a few times, they finally stay disabled on restart, but then I can't re-enable them. (Same thing happens, but in reverse; I enable them, but they return to disabled on restart.)

At one point I was trying to disable Foxit and Silverlight and re-enable Flash. Each time I restarted, Foxit and Silverlight would be enabled again and Flash disabled again. After about five or six attempts over two days, suddenly it worked.

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? I don't recall ever having problems disabling unwanted plugins before.

Note: This is about plug-ins, not extensions. And this isn't about permanently disabling or removing plugins.

Sorry folks, I have asked the writer but just want to keep options open.

"Net usage item 1.2.337.1" It used to work. Now it constantly just gives a red circle with a white cross in it.

But, if I RMB in it, and "visit ISP usage page" it works.

So if it opens the link and can show me on a page, SOMETHING has changed, but where? Anyone else have this error?

P.S. My ISP is bigpond.

When in Yahoo mail, the OPEN WEB LOCATION box opens for each letter I try to type in in the "To" line and/or the "Subject" line of any new e-mail to someone. I type a letter, the Box opens, and I cannot type anything in the e-mail window anywhere until I close the box. I close the box, type another letter, and the OWL Box open gain. It takes forever to type anything. This started when I updated Firefox to the new 21 version. I Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. No help. I uninstalled 21 and re-installed 19 (I was using 19 with no problems until today). No help. The problem will not go away. I note that others have complained of this problem. Is there a fix yet? I have been forced back to IE in the meantime.

Any suggestions why Firefox wouldn't be reading the transparencies in the pdfs correctly?

I've gone through all the suggestions, troubleshooting listed here and nothing has worked in stopping this "hanging" business. It started earlier this week with FF16. So I tried uninstalling, clearing out any traces of it, profiles and all. R-installed with the previous extensions, plugins and scripts. Still did it. So I either disabled or uninstalled said add-ons. Still did it. Upgraded to 17, then 18. Same problem. "Not responding" every couple of minutes for just a few seconds, longer when I switched tabs. I'm a heavy tab user, but given the problem, I've gone down to no more than 3 open at the same time. Still hangs. So I decided to do a complete overhaul. Did a reset. I even thought it was my computer (Vista with SP2) which had been working fine and was slowing down around the same time FF was hanging and being a resource hog.

With FF uninstalled, with the help of Microsoft support, I worked on the laptop. Uninstalled my usual programs, including AV (which had avast). Moved all my files to an external hard drive. In essence leaving my computer with bare bones. Did a defrag and a system restore. I reinstalled av, then ran it. All clear. Ran malwarebytes. All clear. Ran registry clean. All fine. So I reinstalled FF18 and did not use any add-ons. Still hanged. Went up to FF19 beta thinking whatever but there is, would be cured. And it worked fine witn no add-ons. So I started installing my usuals, but leaving only the most important ones, ABP, No Script. Was ok so I added greasemonkey, smartest toolbar, download statusbar and unhide passwors. All which I've used for years with no problems. And FF19 worked fine with no hanging for like a day and a half. Today, (jan 24) not only is it haning and not responding again, but it's doing it more frequently and for longer.

FF never has crashed, it just hangs and freezes. My job is ALL online. I don't like Chrome (not user friendly to me). I'd rather avoid using IE. I'm a user of FF since day one, but this is stressing me out because I cannot do my job properly.

What can I do to make it stop? My only other option is to just forget FF and try and get used to Opera.

Now that I think about it, could this hanging problem be related to the Java issue that has come out publicly recently?

I don't know what else to do. I've tried everything that has been written here. Trust me, I've wasted 2 days on this issue. Time I'll never get back and I could've used to do work.

Thanks

Firefox cache settings that were working are no longer working, in Windows XP (x86) and Windows 7 (64).

By this I meant that I had set the cache to a ram-drive, but that is no longer being used, the cache is being written to disk instead in what is apparently the new default location, and my customized cache settings are ignored.

I've tried resetting Firefox to default and then re-applying them, but the problem still exists.

This is for FF 19+, but not sure when the problem first occurred - perhaps an earlier version too.

Is it no longer possible to re-direct the cache directory? How do you do it?

Bought new laptop & want to transfer favorite places over to new laptop.Firefox --->Firefox but if I did register in the past I do not have any record of user name or PW. A computer man who has since moved to MO, I think installed Firefox for me. I know the Internet and e-mail and a little excel, access and Quicken but after that IM not too computer literate for an old guy. Is there any way to find my user name and pass word on my existing Firefox? Or would Firefox have a record of it. I think it might have been 2005 or 06 when Firefox was installed. My e-mail is Sxxxxxxxxxx@aol.com or bxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@aol.com. I could have used either one if I registered but when I was filling out the previous form, sxxxxxxxxxx@aol..com appeared in a little box when I was part way thru typing my e-mail address. If there was way to transfer favorite places in AOL to Firefox, I would then be able to get rid of AOL. Only reason I kept it was because all the US Sailors in our USS Grand Canyon Sailors Organization had my AOL e-mail and I was the treasurer for ten years. Older gents don't like much change so I left it the way it was. Guess IM getting the same way. One browser-Firefox is all I need from here on out. My cell is xxx-xxx-xxxx Running AVG, Malwarebytes and SuperantiSpyware My new Laptop is Windows 7

I use the password remember thing a lot and have a lot of passwords saved in Firefox. But those passwords can be seen by just clicking a button, not very secure... To solve this I enabled the master password, it solved the problem but now I have to enter the master password every time Firefox starts.

Is there a way to enable the master password only at the 'show passwords' button but not at startup or anywhere else?
