Today i messed up my profile for mozilla on my laptop, i recovered 3 json files (but when importing nit says unable to process the backup file) and the bookmark.html and the places.sqlite but it wont import or restore a thing with any of them, i think i may have lost all of my bookmarks/unsorted bookmarks.

However i do remember that my phone was synced to my laptop before this happened. does that mean that all of my bookmarks are saved somewhere? please help.

I've been a Firefox user since before the beginning. I used the original Netscape 1.0.

Tonight I did one thing: add my Android Tablet browser to sync.

IT IMMEDIATELY ERASED ALL MY GODDAMN BOOKMARKS!

I realize that sync is not a form of backup but the one thing it should NEVER do is ERASE anything.

I've had it with this piece of crap browser. It has been steadily going downhill for a long time and I'm fed up with it. This is the last straw. It's not like there aren't alternatives.

Non-destructive alternatives.

My bookmarks sidebar keeps on disappearing. I'll use ctrl-B to bring it back and it will be fine for a while when I close and re-open firefox but, after probably 3 or 4 times running firefox, it will be gone again and I have to use ctrl-B to bring it back. This just keeps happening over and over again every few times that I start firefox. I've tried running without any extensions or addons and the problem is still there.

I had accidentally deleted the entire profile AND emptied the recycle bin! Using a program called Recuva I was able to restore what i emptied from the recycle bin to its EXCELLENT STATE, so there was no partial corruption whatsoever. I was able to find a .json file dated back to 4/3/2013 which would be great considering i did all of this today. I also found my places.sqlite that was dated back as well and an bookmarks.html file that was dated 7/22/2010 .. I dont know which one would hold my "unsorted bookmarks" however, i have tried the .json file that i recovered fully (by the way, all were recovered at an excellent state which again should create no issue) and i get "unable to process the backup file".. the .html loads nothing. and i replaced the new place.sqlite that was created upon reinstallation (and put it in a new folder) with the older excellent state one.. and nothing happened. i have exited mozilla and restarted it. tried all three again. still no avail. please help.

I can't close the bookmark tabs that show up automatically at the tab bar. I don't want them to open or show up. When they show up I can't close them and everything in the tab bar gets frozen. So I'm just stuck. Firefox won't even quit when this happens. How can disable these bookmark tabs from showing up. They are a nuisance.

I also need instruction on eliminating bookmarks that came with Firefox. I deleted them, but they showed up again.

when the android phone is turned off, and then back on again, any desk top icon or bookmark of an web page with a manifest will not work when in airplane mode. You must at least make an attempt to turn on wifi, even an unsuccessful attempt to find a wifi connection will do. Then when you use the book mark or the desktop icon, it will work. I have a series of phones which only have internect connection - no phone company tower connection SAMSUNG-SGH-1997 firmware version 2.2.1 kernel verions 2.6.32.9 FROYO.UCKH1. Contact wih android support only got suggestion to use the google chrome browser, which incidentally does not work on 2.2.1

Today when I started firefox all but 5 of my bookmarks have disappeared from my toolbar. I checked the folder and they all show up there as per usual. I've tried restarting. I can add new bookmarks. If I rearrange bookmarks in my folder they still don't show on the toolbar. What's the deal?

Bought new laptop & want to transfer favorite places over to new laptop.Firefox --->Firefox but if I did register in the past I do not have any record of user name or PW. A computer man who has since moved to MO, I think installed Firefox for me. I know the Internet and e-mail and a little excel, access and Quicken but after that IM not too computer literate for an old guy. Is there any way to find my user name and pass word on my existing Firefox? Or would Firefox have a record of it. I think it might have been 2005 or 06 when Firefox was installed. My e-mail is Sxxxxxxxxxx@aol.com or bxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@aol.com. I could have used either one if I registered but when I was filling out the previous form, sxxxxxxxxxx@aol..com appeared in a little box when I was part way thru typing my e-mail address. If there was way to transfer favorite places in AOL to Firefox, I would then be able to get rid of AOL. Only reason I kept it was because all the US Sailors in our USS Grand Canyon Sailors Organization had my AOL e-mail and I was the treasurer for ten years. Older gents don't like much change so I left it the way it was. Guess IM getting the same way. One browser-Firefox is all I need from here on out. After installing FF21 (win7 pro) when I tried to "bookmark all tabs" from an open tab context menu, instead of the place for the name of the save being blank, it had the name of an old bookmark that seemed to be random. I restarted FF and restarted in Safe Mode, but that did not fix anything. Then I reset FF and that did not fix anything. In fact now when I click Ctrl+Shift+D or use the tab context menu I get a dialog like I am saving a new bookmark, not bookmarking all tabs. There is a place for the Name Location Folder Tags Keyword The only add-ons I activated after doing the reset are Numext 0.7.3, Theme and Font Changer 7.1, and Roboform 7.8.9.5, all of which I have been using for years with no prior problems. Note: After doing the reset, I tried Bookmark all tabs before I enabled any add-ons, and experienced the same problem. I have a screenshot of what I get when I try to use bookmark all tabs.

I used the Bookmark All Tabs feature to save a group of bookmarks into bookmark "folders". I did that by right-clicking on one of the tabs, choosing "Bookmark All Tabs". For "Folder Name" I entered "Watches". The default entry in the "Folder" field was "Bookmarks Menu", which I did not change. When I look at my list of bookmarks there is a separate "folder" named "Watches" that contains all the bookmarks I saved. So far so good. The problem came when I used "Export Bookmarks to HTML..." When I opened the "bookmarks" folder I noticed that the name "Watches" appeared on the page, but none of the actual "Watches" bookmarks were there. I thought that maybe they were contained somewhere within the bookmarks file, but I just could not see them. However, after I imported the bookmarks into IE none of the "Watches" bookmarks were there.

Why are the "Watches" bookmarks not included within the exported "bookmarks" file? I've searched Google but haven't seen where anyone else has mentioned this problem.

Incidentally, I have other bookmarks I've saved the same way (i.e., "Bookmark All Tabs"), and none of them are being exported either. Also, doing the export with all add-ons disabled made no difference.

After my laptop crashed, I am attempting to retrieve my bookmarks off my old hard drive (which is now an external). Nowhere in any of the package contents or folder locations are there any of the file types mentioned in other articles (.json, .sqlite), and the only profile information I can access leads me to a blank backup which was just created as I opened firefox for the first time. There are no visible backups of my bookmarks ever being automatically saved, as suggested. So, after wasting a large portion of my time trying to do what should be the simplest of procedures, where are the old bookmarks supposedly stored?

I'm tired of not being able to change my old ID and password on TidyFavorites, because you do not update that program anymore. Do you have a great bookmark program like TidyFavorites, with the cute pictures of each website, that I can switch to? I've already looked through your list and it's way too long to figure out. Can you give me your top 1-3 choices please? And, can you tell me how to switch from TidyFavorites to the new bookmark program without losing my 50 websites? Thanks.
