Fire stops responding

Posted

When I used Firefox random pages will freeze and a "Mozilla FIrefox (Not Responding)" message will appear on the top of the screen. When This happes Im unable to do anything on my computer. If I try to open a different application, including task manager to shut down Firefox, nothing will happen until Firefox starts responding again. This has been happening for over a week. I tried the solutions here: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding but that did not help at all. Ive read countless help topics online, but none have helped. Its become so bad that I even formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows. Still didnt help. Ive tried turning off my Antivirus Software and Firewall (separately and at the same time) and that still didnt work. If Firefox stopped responding for 10 seconds, I would be ok with that, but when it happens I sometimes cant use my computer for 2-5 minutes. Its really bad. Please someone help me resolve this problem. I just cant take it anymore and dont want to use any other browser.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

If it works in Windows Safe mode then you have a problem with other software, likely security software or a system driver, that is running on your computer.
Make sure that you have the latest updates of your security software.

You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services get started.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I also have this issue. My homepage (http://nz.yahoo.com/) has Adobe Flash ads, which after FF has finished 'Not responding' show Adobe Flash Player has crashed.
