restore bookmarks from vista

Posted

Hi please help. I backed up my bookmarks on my Win Vista, now I have upgraded to Win 8 and I want to restore by bookmarks. A lot of the websites I have, had an automatic log-in for. It won't let me do it.

If there's no solution i'll have to re-install vista to get my log-ins back.

When you installed, what happened to your old user folder? In particular, you would want to find the current location of this old folder:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

If you still have that folder, you can drill down to your Firefox profile folder and copy the files that store logins over to your current Firefox settings. This article might help: Recovering important data from an old profile.

To quickly access your current Firefox settings/profile folder, you can use

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

Any luck?

That worked thanks. What I did before was copy over the old profile folder and overwritten the new one, but then Firefox wouldn't start. So now I just copied over the contents of the old profile into the new profile.

You got it, copying the contents from the old folder into the new folder -- without changing the new folder name -- is about as close as you can get to a perfect clone of your old configuration.
