Went to upload files to a website fireftp has disappeared... using Firefox 19. It says its in addons but I cant find it anywhere, not under web developer, or tools.. completely disappeared. There was an update on 10th of Feb and I noticed some changes to the way the directory tree was showing, but now it has completely disappeared.... and its a real pain.. as I have quite a few accounts... any clues... or advice...

Working fine here via the Web Developer menu.
- chrome://fireftp/content/fireftp.xul
You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
You can also try to uninstall and reinstall FireFTP and reset fireftp prefs on the about:config page.

Did you try to delete the localstore.rdf file?
You can also try to delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files":
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
Try updating the FireFTP extension to 2.0.10
