I have managed the retain previous session situation, but I would still like to be asked as I was in the

Hello geetee, go from Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP or if you have not enable firefox button) > Options to access the options window > Tabs panel > CHECK "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" [ V ]

see for more info : Tab preferences and settings

also Update Firefox to the latest version if you have xp with sp2 and above, because your 11.0 is very old, unsupported and vulnerable also.

thank you

Do you mean when closing tabs via the right-click context menu of the tab bar or when closing a Firefox window or closing Firefox?

You can check the browser.tabs.warn* tabs on the about:config page (search: warn).

It may not be possible to be asked for confirmation if you set the startup setting to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
