Hi davemartin,
The Refresh (or Reload) button is the arrow pointing clockwise to the right end of the Address Bar. If you don't have it you need to go to to <View> - <Toolbars> - <Customize> and you shuld be able to choose it from there

You can also reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Command + Shift + R" (MAC)
Sorry, ther is no symbol as you describe in v.18. There used to be a button, but no longer. ctrl-F5 does work, but would prefer a button.
