why do i keep getting an "about:rights" tab ?
Every few pages I go to, I get a new tab label "about:rights" with firefox open source disclaimers. Why did this start and how do I make it stop.

Sounds that you have a problem with the preferences.
Try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.
