just had the Firefox auto-updater trying to update me to 18.01, I refused the update and went to the mozilla site to check and no update was available, just thought I better ask and to let other people know in-case this is malware
any ideas on how to check would be welcome
cheers Don

Ryrynz 5 months ago You don't trust your own browser notifying you of updates?
18.01 has been released, next time you see an update for your browser like that just update it..

stripe 4 months ago It does not matter if I trust my browser or not, I just don't click on pop up windows that appear on my desktop without checking if they are valid first. (this goes for anything)
The problem was when I checked the Mozilla site it said my firefox was up to date, who would you believe a pop up (not verified from who knows where) or the manufacturers website? (verified genuine by the url) That is why I posted to inform others of the possibility (however unlikely) of a rouge pop up.

Ryrynz 4 months ago You don't get rogue pop ups that look like browser update windows, certainly doesn't hurt to be cautious but you're taking it a little far IMO. A Firefox update prompt is not ever going to be malware.

Ryrynz 4 months ago Exactly, OP shouldn't have to ask every time a new update is released though.
