hello barbburns, firefox 18 won't automatically run the vulnerable version of the java plugin - on websites where it is used, you'd have to manually allow it. in case you want to totally disable the java plugin because of the latest reports of the 0-day-vulnerability you can do this in firefox/tools > addons > plugins.

java 7 update 11 which should address the security vulnerability is now available to download at http://java.com

edit: but be cautious, during the installation of the security update, java does try to plant adware by ask.com on your pc, disable the option to install the toolbar. i find such practices by oracle beyond acceptable...
