There needs to be clarification on the Java issues. It's clear that we can disable Java in the java control panel itself and/or via the plug-in link.
However, what about the firefox options menu? Where you click Tools_Options_Content and then you can check or un-check "Enable JavaScript" -- is that safe to be checked/enabled or is that also part of the security concern w/ Java right now?

philipp 4 months ago hello aladria, javascript is a different technology than java. firefox 18 won't automatically run the vulnerable version of the java plugin - on websites where it is used, you'd have to manually allow it. in case you want to totally disable the java plugin because of the latest reports of the 0-day-vulnerability you can do this in firefox > addons > plugins.

JS_SPYWARE 1 day ago In Firefox 23 we're not allowed to use the "Disable JavaScript" checkbox, because they took it away from us. What a horrible idea.

cor-el 1 day ago You can disable the Java plugin in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins if you do not want to use it or are concerned about security issues.
A lot of websites won't properly with JavaScript disabled.
