Thanks for the help. I had a bunch of bookmarks that I collected over a period of time on my desktop. I recently acquired a new laptop and wanted to copy them to it. What I did below worked perfectly.

To copy bookmarks to a different computer

  1. Install a flash drive into computer #1
  2. On the menu bar, open bookmarks>show all bookmarks>import and backup>export bookmarks to HTML.
  3. In the window that opens, scroll down to the flashdrive then hit <save>
  4. Install the flash drive into computer #2.
  5. Repeat step 2 in computer #2 except hit import bookmarks from HTML.
  6. Scroll down to the flash drive and highlight [bookmarks.HTML] and click open.
  7. The bookmarks should be imported at this point.

All the instructions and links I found were wordy, somewhat confusing, and didn't address this subject directly.

Thank again. Jim B.

Note that restoring a JSON backup will replace all current bookmarks.
So if you need to merge bookmarks with existing bookmarks then you need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file.
Note that an HTML backup doesn't include tags, so if you use tags then those get lost.

Sorry, I had the steps all neatly aligned in notepad and they looked fine when I wrote the post but, after submitting it, the alignment got screwed up. What should I have done to preserve it?

You want a numbered list and the way to create such a list on this forum is to start each item with a '#' to make the forum software number it automatically.

Like this:

# Install a flash drive into computer #1

Gives:

  1. Install a flash drive into computer #1
