the location line does not show on my home screen
on my home page, i do not have an address line which tells me the sight I'm on.

First, you are running a bunch of EXTREMELY old, out of date and unsupported software. Your steps should be the following:
- Update Firefox to 17.0.1. Update Firefox to the latest version
- Update your plugins. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
Then test again.
Which Linux distribution do you have?
Do you meet the requirements for the current Firefox release?
You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
