Script quits working - this is when multiple tabs are open
Script quits working - this is when multiple tabs are open and I go to close one. First, I have to click to close the tab multiple times before it closes, then a 'new tab' opens on it's own. The script error reads Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:1644 I have to then close the window, reopen it, and then all previous tabs open, and yet another 'new tab' opens. None of my tabs are closing with one click, all need two or more before they close. I love Firefox and have used for years, this really must be fixed.
Helpful replies
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

More Information
Hi,
Please check if this happens in Safe Mode.
Troubleshooting Extensions and Themes
Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. Options > Advanced. All these settings/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme or hardware acceleration is causing issues.
Question owner
It continues to happen in safe mode. I have none of the known problematic extensions. The only ones installed are Photobucket uploader 1.3.3 and Xmarks 4.0.5 I have and use only the original 'theme'
My plugin add-ons are:
Windows Live - up to date, Silverlight plugin - up to date
Shockwave flash - up to date Quicktime plugin - up to date iTunes Application detector - up to date Adobe Acrobat - NOT up to date - downloaded the file, but says I must close Firefox to complete install and even though I close Ff, it still keeps giving me the 'must close' message to complete the update
You can try to End Process Firefox in the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) Processes tab, if it is still open.
Question owner
Thank you.... ok, that worked as far as closing Ff. now all are up to date, and it is continuing to happen.
Please temporarily check if this happens in a new profile.
Question owner
Yes, it happens in a new, temp profile
Did this start after the update?? If you have security software you may have to re-trust Firefox and its supporting files/child processes. You can also try to Disable all the Plugins in Tools > Add-ons.
Question owner
I don't know which update you are referring too. I can tell you it's been happening a couple weeks now. I have disabled all plugins and it continues to happen
I mean the Firefox update. Please also see AV/Firewalls. If possible you can try to check in the Windows Safe Mode with Networking.
Question owner
Ok, I'll try that. I have to leave for a bit. I appreciate your time and efforts, I'll be sure to post on this thread again when I return. Is there a way to undo the Ff update? Or find out when It was done? Thanks
You can find the update history via Tools > Options > Advanced > Update > Show Update History, but there are no undo options. Options > Advanced
Question owner
Ok, I have done all suggestions so far........... continuing issue
While in Windows Safe Mode please reinstall Firefox on top of the current installation. Please also see this for taking a backup.
Question owner
ok, working on this now
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Question owner
Ok redid my Ff in windows safe mode. Didn't lose anything so I didn't reinstall my profile, but the issue still continues.
I am only using windows for my firewall and virus protection I believe.
My Reg Clean Pro has been coming up with 'stopped working' errors about the same time.
Question owner
Ok, I'm off for nite....... Hope to pick this back up with you when I wake. Thank you for your time and efforts.
I think it would be a good idea to do a malware scan using two or more different scanners.
You can also try a more thorough scan using a live CD, though there is a chance that if any system files (infected/suspicious) are deleted the system may not start again. It would be a good idea to post in a security forum before doing this.
Can you also please attach a screenshot of the error: Add images: below Post a Reply on this page.
